I'm curious. What is the companies contractual obligation here? Are they living up to their contractual obligations?

The obligation is that they give him a job for 8 months (which satisfies money they put into his training) CRST realistically doesn't have to do anything else. He's technically employed so they're holding up to their end.

I've been in this industry for some 20 years and also went thru the one year contract deal. Fortunately I did not have the problems that you are having and hope that you can get to some other outfit. The only thing I can suggest, is that maybe you and the other 11 can find an attorney who might support you upon leaving crst with a class action lawsuit against crst for breach of contract (i.e., not fulfilling THEIR requirements under the contract and leaving you stranded) anything else and you could always contact the local DOT office and inform them of everything you posted here. (expired permits of the truck, failling to supply you with your long form (which, by the way, is YOURS legally. Failing to maintain the equipment, which may also fail to meet minimum safety requirements for being road worthy) Used to be that you could always pull into a scale house and request a level 1 inspection on the equipment, and if the officer asked why you wanted that done, explain and they would just state on the inspection form that THEY were the ones that pulled you in for a random inspection and found the problems. I did that years ago, and the main terminal, which was about 35 miles away started seeing pretty much ALL their trucks getting inspected at the scales and having them all sent back for required maintenance and re-inspection. (got the companies attention REAL well from that one!) When the company asked me what happened at the scales, I told that that, "the scale master told me to go around back for an inspection. Whaddaya mean, what happened??" I spent the night in the drivers bunk house, woke up the next morning, the repairs were FULLY done on my truck, I had ALL the required paperwork for the truck, got a new load, left, went thru the scales and saw 4 more of the companies trucks around back for inspection. The same scale master was there, recognized me and asked if everything was good and waved me on.
Anyway, I'd look into getting with the other drivers, or doing it yourself, and seeing if a lawsuit would work against CRST to get you out of your contract and to a better company. So far as other outfits to work for that might take you at your experience level, if you don't mind tarping loads and doing flatbed work, I understand that TMC has a pretty good program, I can't guarantee that, but it's the only one that I can quickly recommend. good luck, and be safe.

I can tell you first hand I know EXACTLY what you're going through. I wanted to quit after a month but I knew that I had to stick it out and pay my dues and I also knew that this will all be over in 8 short months.
Let me help you a lil if I can. You can request a new dispatcher if you like. Depends on where you live, call 1-800-736-2778 and ask to speak to Brooks Dechant. He was my last dispatcher and tell him I (Charles Taylor) told you to call.
He's a good guy and will try to help you if he can. That's all I can advise right at this point.
I did my time, was done the week of Christmas 2011 took the week after Christmas off and started with my new company on Jan 4, 2012 running solo and loving it. :biggrin_25525:

Actually they have lost almost everyone of those lawsuits.. That being said Schnieder hired my son with 2 months left on his CRST contract. However, he did have prior experience working local beer deliveries and drove OTR for 6 months.

I would say the OP is SOL on this one unless she can buy out the contract.. Even then she'd be forced to go back to school again since CRST probably won't give her that diploma..

Once he passed orientation he was a CRST employee. Therefore they are holding up their end.

Scale houses in the U.S. can ask for them also, usually don't though. Colorado asked for one when I was going across 70
