:biggrin_25516:There is a company out of Sewickley, PA that is not even a real trucking company because owns no trucks at all. Just lease trucks and trailers for bulk loads. Pays per load delivered, and make drivers to take care of their trucks and trailers, take them to service, wash them, for free. They spy on drivers and harass them with electronic systems such as Green Road despite trucks are governed at 62. This company is a communist one. Do not have staff or services for drivers. Just external road assistance. This company is in about 15 cities but have no terminals, just rents yards for parking and that's it. This is the perfect example of a stingy and despicable company.

Don't just post and run because I know the company you speak of and would like to hear the whole story, they haul dust out of Allegheny Mineral for the coal mines, trucks always seemed to be maintained well enough, and drivers were presentable. In the 8 months I've lived here I've only seen their ad twice for sand drivers which means their drivers stay happy, or they just aren't busy enough for hiring right now....which is it?

I know guys who drive for Modern that think it's great. Local jobs, paid decent (this is the NorthEast mind you) and get treated fairly. I'd take this post with a grain of salt.

I just checked out their home page and they look pretty square. I know looks aren't everything,,but what i read about them seems pretty darn good. If I ever decide to get out of heavy hauling I'd look at them first.

Drivers stay happy. They are busy. They haul sand out of the rail road up the hill from me. Thinking of applying after I move in May.

:biggrin_2551: Modern just consolidated with RAM Transit for Sand hauling...Both companies are good to work for. Your not gonna get rich working for them BUT in order to make any real money you have to WORK..... :biggrin_2551:

Not true, Modern Transportation owns a few trucks, but not many and they are mostly just trucks with pumps on them to use at various locations to unload trailers with
Well, it is a bulk carrier. Either pneumatics or gravity drops, Modern owns all of its trailers.
Uhmmm.. How else should the drivers be paid? Per loads UN delivered?
Again not true, the trucks are lease trucks, if the truck you are driving is due service or breaks down, you would be required to get the truck to the lease provider or you could walk home from where ever it breaks down. When this happens the drivers get paid breakdown pay after the first hour or shuttle pay if they are just moving equipment to be washed or serviced.
Some drivers need to be “spied on” as you call it. When the trucks are governed at a certain speed, there are still drivers who insist on running well over the speed limits in towns and in speed zones.. this may be a shock to you. But that’s not legal nor safe.
    Define that.
Since the drivers work 10 – 14 hours and go home, what do you really want in the way of services? A massage? A whirlpool bath?
That’s right (for those paying attention), Modern leases on with major lease companies (Ryder, Penske etc) and therefor use their service network for road breakdowns.
The terminal manager and logistics supervisor is all that is needed when there company is run 24/7 and the runs basically go from very few shippers to usually even fewer receivers. Normally there are two drivers per truck and the trucks run 24/7, all the trucks need is a parking lot. Most services and maintenance are done by outside sources. The drivers here work 5 day weeks and an occasional Saturday, if the driver runs the weekend the load pays more than the same load on the weekdays
Well, Modern isn't a company for people who cannot show up for work regularly and drag their feet around all day.

Better think twice Brother, Been with these clowns since 2008 ,since the economy went bust,I witnessed about 3 yrs ago, four guys walked in looking for work, they filled the the application forms, then it got real different, Our manager began telling them that two of you start at 3 o'clock PM ,the others will start at 4 o"clock PM , You'll run 3 loads, It will take you about 12 maybe 13 hrs to finish. One guy asked "whats the hourly pay"? My boss said ....We pay by the Load...it's 58 dollars , they almost stopped breathing, they grabbed there applications torn them up tossed them in the trash can and walked out, and told me that I needed to quit and find a real job, I would have if there was a better job out there
