All in all Roehl has not been a horrible company. They are very respectful, even when my husband has foamed at the mouth at them. On the other hand, my husband going weeks and weeks on end with no takehome pay is ridiculous. He does pay substantial child support, family insurance, an advance every week, and of course everyone's favorite friend, taxes. The total between his advance, insurance, and support is right around 450 a week. Add around 80-100 in taxes after that... you get the picture. His main complaint is: He goes LONG stretches without seeing anything deposit into his checking account. Grossing less than a thousand dollars for a full week of work is insulting after 8 years of driving. His last 9 pay periods, he saw $250 enter his account, two weeks ago.

Moral of the story: If you have retirement income, a pension, inheritance to fall back on, or live at home with mommy and daddy, then Roehl would be a great job for you. But if you have bills to pay, a family to raise, or want atleast SOME of the nicer things in life, you may want to consider going elsewhere, because you won't make any money at Roehl. All of the niceties of life (politeness, etc.) mean NOTHING if you can't feed your children.

If I can offer a suggestion, if your husband is still there, have him request a different dispatcher. From the sounds of it they aren't giving him enough miles if his checks are only $250. Perhaps a new dispatcher would help with this issue? Just putting it out there. Please let us all know how/ if it works.

why does everyone think "more miles" is the answer? wake the f up everyone!! I'm on a load right now paying $5.48 pm...before that, $4.32 pm. Granted I drive specialized, but I saw the writing on the wall A LONG TIME AGO and decided that I like to eat more than just peanut butter. Until you stop pulling for 40-50 cpm, you will always be screwed

There are ways to make money in any company. You just have to find out what they want and give it to them.

If he only made $5200 in 9 weeks of driving they must be trying to starve him out. I mean that truck is not even breaking even at low miles like that. But even if he was making good miles, with that much in payroll deductions it ain't worth the time he would have to put in to get it. He needs a hourly job with OT and good bennies. Not a piece rate job with fluctuating income and long hours.

The truth is that even if he was making 50k take home a year at Roehl, with the kind of hrs you put in doing OTR, it comes to around $14.88 per hr. You see the OTR companies tell you, you can make all this money but they never tell you that it is based on a 70hr week and 10.5 to 11 months of work.

Right now he is making half that rate so he either needs to double the miles or double the mileage rate and neither is going to happen at Roehl because they train and have newbies to impress for a few months before they put them on the back burner also.

A small percentage will be allowed to make good money for PR purposes but most will be kept around 600-800 a week in pay.

Now I have worked for 4 OTR company's and made good money, but I put in alot of hours and broke a lot of rules doing it. And that was back when they did not treat everyone like student drivers and cut your ability to make money every other year. For so called safety when it was really to increase the amount of drivers running less miles to increase employment numbers and get the revolving door sped up. Heck a good runner now days would of got you starved out a decade ago.

Sorry to hear about your husband. I work for Roehl and have never had a check less than $400 take home in the van division. Now that I'm in flatbed I haven't had one less that $700 take home. I make 35cpm plus the extras and bonuses and such. I agree he needs a new dispatcher, if he still works at here.

I am afraid of Roehl. For a beginner they pay the highest as far as training pay goes. They don't trust their drivers. They have camera's in their trucks now. Case of micro management.

Wow! Way to overlook the obvious everyone. Early in the post it says, he pays substantial child support, advances etc.... It boils down to the fact that this dude has done a ###### job managing his life and finances, so what's the natural tendency? Blame everyone (thing) else and over-look the obvious.
