[TD]A man walking on I-65 in Hart County died last night after being struck by a tractor trailer. At 8:47 p.m, Kentucky State Police received a call. A Heartland Express tractor-trailer operated by Russell Gearhart (53) of Shippensburg , PA , was traveling south on I 65 at the 56 mile point. According to the driver, the pedestrian was walking south in the middle of the roadway when he moved into the path of the Heartland Express Tractor-Trailer. The pedestrian, Antonio Pratt (32) of Louisville was pronounced dead on the scene by the Hart County Coroner Jeff Roten. An autopsy is being conducted in Louisville today. The investigation is ongoing and is under the direction of Trooper Jeremy Smith, and he is being assisted by Kentucky State Police Troopers, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Hart County Coroner Office, Hart County EMS , and the Horse Cave Volunteer Fire Department.

It's sad a person died in this accident.
But how is Heartland at fault???
The article states he was driving down the road at 8:47 Pm. Not like it was 2 am and his log book was way over.
I believe you need to think before posting bogus titles...No mention of the driver's log being over or the driver saying he was tired or drunk or under the influnce of drugs.
The sad thing is this driver has to live it this for the rest of his life...

Spring Chicken, Lonesome and skibum_63 Thank this.

Did someone hold a gun on the driver forcing him to drive?

The driver is "The Captain of The Ship" and makes the decision as to when and when not to drive (within HOS regs).

sorry to hear about the guys death but he was walking in the roadway at nite. don"t think its the drivers fault or the companies. though he has to live with it. and the article is over year and half old. op needs to put more info on how its heartland fault.

Michael is bound to go back and dig up every HE accident since the company started operating.

The axe he is trying to grind is among the largest I've seen in some time around here....

The thing that is so ridiculous about this thread and the poster, michael019d, is that Heartland was one of the first (not the first, but one of the first) to go into e-logs, and also has a very good CSA score in all categories, but especially the HOS violations category. Not exactly a company out there running rogue. There is something not right about this cat michael019d I'm starting to wonder if he is really a Heartland driver. very doubtful at this point. and he keeps attacking every other heartland driver on here.
