    Wife and I drove from Seattle to Oregon to pick up a load for this company when we worked at USX. Get there only to be told it was canceled. Another driver told us this happens a lot with Road Runner.

    @nikmirbre IM ABOUT TO LEASE MY TRUCK ON WITH RR OUT OF CHARLOTTE TERMINAL I LIVE IN GREENSBORO. WJAT WAS THE AREAS U RAN WITH THEM THEY SAY U CAN PICK YOUR OWN RUNNINGS LANES ANY INFO IS HELPFUL????

    Roadrunner is a decent company, Just be prepared to run like a independent contractor. RRTS does not hold your hand. NO dispatchers and No company drivers. You are the dispatcher and the driver of the truck, you make all the decisions for that truck. SO if your not making money it not RRTS fault. The money is good, just take your time to learn the system!

    Now with that said STAY away from terminal freight, use it only when it will benefit you (like getting home or when you get unloaded late in a terminal area), if you sit there waiting for a load for two-three days, it not they're fault. YOU have options use them. Truckload is there to help you out when your in a bad area or cant get loaded from a terminal. You have to be careful with them, they love to move freight at a cheap rate. They're known for quoting cheap rates and standing behind it as the best rate available in that area. TAKE it from me HANG up 1.25 is not the best rate! you can do much better from a outside broker like TQL.
    They have a website for the IC leased to them, its very helpful when pulling a terminal load as the fuel is usually cheaper when you use your comdata card! often .60 off the pump price!


    Here is a little tip. RRTS gives you a rate sheet for the freight lanes out of terminals. One rule of thumb for me is, I wont except anything paying less than a terminal load. Why pull for cheap when I can go into a terminal and get a higher rate.(its still cheap but it gets me moving) RRTS requires that you run one terminal load per month. Some terminals would like for that load to come from your home terminal, all depends on the terminal. Keep your nose clean and you can run what ever you want here. No questions asked! Book loads at your leisure, stay home long as you want (not recommended with a lease truck) but no one is going to call until you get too far behind.

    If your going with a lease truck GOOD LUCK haven't met a single person who like the payments on those things. The trailers come from extra lease, not a bad deal just maintain it and you wont have a problem. If you ask me I say get your own truck and trailer then lease on. Or get a monthly payment and not weekly because one week off and your in the hole, don't make enough revenue for the week and you don't get a check. RRTS is going to pay your truck note and trailer before they pay you no exceptions. $5k is a good goal for the week, gross 5k and you should see a pay check at the end of the week.
    RRTS will load up to 60% of the load onto your comdata card for fuel, NO way in the world should all that be used for fuel. Most of the time you have 30% of the money left if not more. This is your money you are free to do what you please with it. Consider it an advance on your next weeks pay. This money should be factored into the money you receive at the end of the week.

    I've been with RRTS for almost a year now and I love it. I run a ton of broker freight and use terminals only when I feel like it. Terminal freight loads only at night, unless your on the A team, then you can get empty and reloaded during the day. (doesn't bother me, I understand those guys paid there dues and have dedicated runs) it part of trucking no problem, it wont affect my bottom line anyway as those runs are usually out and back to a terminal. As stated I run broker freight and choose my own loads, lanes and rates. I blame no one when I have a bad week. everything is on me. I make every decision about that truck and trailer. From Detention pay, lumper fees etc.

    I came to RRTS to see if running my own authority was a good option for me. so far so good. just getting the hang of dealing with brokers and shippers. Next step is my own authority!

But let me say this, What works for one will not always work for another, but if your willing to listen, I promise I can make things easy on you once you lease on. Just be prepared to do everything on your own. I don't claim to know it all, but I claim to be profitable and that all that matters to me at the end of the day!!

    I definitely apperication what u said . I really do .. thanks for the feedback. When u choose your loads how do u run . Is they a specific state /lane u preferred or just where the money is . For instance I like to run 95 bailtmore south to Florida over to Alabama /Louisiana back to Carolinas . It that triangle . What's your opinion on that ? And again I thank u for your time

    Yes I stayed away from terminal freight..but, I did use it @ times to leave charlotte like on a Monday when starting the week out...OR if I was somewhere like Portland and I always got a good rate going back east, usually the northeast PA/NJ......OR when I go to low on the broker %.......I think on broker loads you got 96% on your first 3 loads then they took an extra 1% each load after......TOBYTOB, can answer that as I don't exactly remember...

    But NEVER call the brokerage for a load......They will take anything and I believe its just designed to get you back to a terminal city for terminal freight. They were just starting the brokerage side when I left...I remember I took one from Ontario CA to Winston salem NC..picked it up Monday about 4 pacific time and had to be in NC Thursday @ 8am....

    Boogie, You can run any lane you want, long as it making you revenue. I usually run from Northeast out to texas and back, some time I run the Midwest to Texas and back or down Into Lousiana and back to Northeast. Just all Depends on what you wanna do. To make any money with the Terminal freight you will need to run long. Get loaded to cali and reload from Mira Loma/Commerce back east. This is how I made a decent check before I purchased my own trailer.
    As stated it not a bad deal, They wont tell you anything you have to figure it out. Some of the drivers wont help either, but I can't move it all, so it doesn't bother me to help another driver out. we're all here to make money.

    Pulling a broker load usually pays 96% flat rate or 90% if your in a terminal state (just depends) check your guide and see what it going to pay RRTS before you decide your rate, this way your not short changing your self. Figure out how much you need to move a load before calling a broker, This way your not assuming the rate was good before you accept the load.

    As for the lanes you stated. I think it can work. very good rates coming from those state, except FLorida. Stay away from there with a dry van. I've never been to charlotte terminal, but i see a ton of there loads on our load board, usually that stuff is going west, like portland, OR and Seattle, WA. She has some other lanes but those seem to be the ones that never get covered. Prob because it heavy and time consuming. Remember this taking a long run like that will eat up your week, usually never get those in before the pay cutoff time. I'm not saying don't run them, just make sure you plan it correctly, because if you do you can have a great paycheck for that weeks work..

    Pound puppy, only set rates are terminal freight +fsc. Broker loads are what ever you can negotiate. I pull a reefer. I averge we'll above $2 a mile after RRTS gets their cut. I know some who avg less. Just depends on what you can negotiate! If I don't make my set goal on a load I won't take it. Doesn't hurt me to sit a day waiting on something good, but move that load for cheap and you will never see a decent rate!

    Questions on the broker loads ... Does RRTS handle all the billing with the broker and then give you your cut when they collect or do they pay you up front?

    Can you use any broker or do they have a list of brokers that you work with?

    They load you a fuel allowance to your Comdata card, is there a fee when you use the card?

    Do the fuel discounts apply only when you carry terminal loads or on any loads?

    Are you limited to the vendors you can use the fuel card?

    I'm looking at possibly making a move in the next 12-24 months. Right now F2F and Landstar are the only companies that I am considering. RRTS may move on to the list ... Self dispatch is the number one criteria. If I can work with brokers on my own, I can get the revenue I need.
