How do you report a company to DOT?

I would like any info on how to report a very bad company to the DOT. I know that they send drivers out with vehicles that are unsafe. One trailer is extremely dangerous and still on the road. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I would like to do this anonymously but that isn't going to prevent me if it's necessary. Thanks!!

www.fmcsa.dot.gov/ and on the right side center you sill see a box labeled 'quick links'. Look in there and choose 'Report a Safety Violation or complaint'. Follow the instructions.

They will call you back but will not start an investigation unless you have written documentation or pictures, take pictures. I nailed a previous employer for this, cost them thousands...

Good for you!! I am not a trucker but know of the bad practices of this company and quite frankly, they scare me. They let these trailers go out and they have to go past about a dozen schools and churches on a two lane road that is barely wide enough for two cars to pass. And that is just the road they have to drive to get to the highway. I will follow all the good advice all you of have provided. It will make it safer for all of us. Thanks so much!!!

Just out of curiosity, what kind of problems have you noticed with them?

You might have better/faster luck calling the highway patrol and telling them they may want to consider setting up a roadside checkpoint near there. When dealing with federal offices, it often takes a while to get the ball rolling.

Nothing but a written letter with detailed information about the violation will initialize an investigation. I know, been there and done it. You must list names, truck numbers and dates. You need to mail this information to the district office of the Federal DOT that oversees where the carrier's home office is at. Basically what the "feds" want is that when they walk into the office of a carrier, they can go straight to the problem. What it really boils down to is that the "feds" dont want to strain too much, they want all the leg work to be done in advance.
