Most likely you experienced an 'interaction' between what used to be known as a 'red circle driver' and someone he was trying to 'make a point' to. JHT has been using this 'internal police force' for years within the IAM 'represented' units. Unimark 'employees' pay a 'courtesy fee' equal to the monthly 'dues assessment' just to come onto ATT and ITL properties and are not members of the IAM per se.

I have had first hand experience with these clowns on many occasions. Their former base of operations was the Springfield, OH terminal but have been 'officially disbanded' even though they still operate as usual. If you see a 'red circle driver' speaking with a member of management and they are both looking at you be assured you will be 'contacted' before you leave the terminal.

Their primary 'mission' is to keep dissension within the ranks to a minimum or non existent. Bring up the subject of the Teamsters? Bad news for sure as Troha and Co. have gone to great lengths to have the IBT removed from truck hauling (with one exception), rig elections and rig voting results in complete collusion with the IAM.

'Red Circle Drivers' are often easy to spot as they are the 'teamster haters' who state they prefer a 'non union shop' but 'tolerate' IAM representation. The guys who often put on a 'show' by acting out a media inspired, stereotypical 'rude and ignorant union man' are most likely to be, you guessed it: a 'red circle driver'! Truly incredible and must be experienced to be believed.

A great job with a seriously disreputable employer unfortunately. Sadly, JHT Holdings 'owns' the entire new truck haul segment.

This guy didn't have enough functioning brain cells to be following any set script or program; he was just a bombastic ####### - bragging about how many times he'd been in jail, all the fights he'd been in, making a huge deal out of a simple misunderstanding with another Unimark driver, making obscene suggestive comments to his ex-girlfriend who was also driving for Unimark, etc.

The point I'm trying to make is that it was obvious to me that the Unimark organization was a train-wreck if 1) someone who'd been there for six months was their senior driver and 2) the senior driver would be this guy, who shouldn't have made it past a preliminary job interview in any organization was allowed to represent himself as the company's senior man.

Unimark is a 'train wreck' while ATT and ITL are not far away. Your description of 'senior driver' fits perfectly with the typical and now formerly known 'red circle drivers'. I could write pages on the subject but will leave it alone for now since I still work for ATT in a marginal capacity.:biggrin_25524:

Recent huge embarrassment at new Unimark facility recently set up at the Cleveland, NC ATT terminal.

3 Unimark 'drivers' driving single trucks destined for Port of Savannah(?) crashed into each other on a nearby county road. One had left earlier and had turned around to head back to Cleveland terminal for some still unknown reason. 2 trucks heading towards I-77; lead truck sideswipes 'returning truck' - 'following truck' hits both! No one hurt I'm told but all trucks involved are reportedly totaled.

Unable to hire enough 'warm bodies' (fools - 1099 employees) to fill the open positions at the newly opened 'office' has necessitated using unionized ATT drivers to assist in doing the port work.

Exciting times ahead as the parent company JHT Holdings tries to convince everyone Unimark is the wave of the future in new truck hauling.:biggrin_25521:

Not sure what you're trying to state as your writing leaves alot to be desired. It seems that the entire management structure of JHT Holdings is completely disreputable. There is no real competition within the new truck haul sector since JHT owns the entire segment and can do whatever it wants with impugnity.:biggrin_25510:

Sounds like your very own conspiricy theory. I used to be a red circle driver...voted FOR Teamster representation. I worked with dozens of other red circle drivers, none of which were tattle tales or arse kissers.

We were red circle drivers because we went any where any time. Lot's of Canada and in and out of every terminal. Yes we got some special treatment when it came to our travel etc. Most of us got along fine with guy's with home terminals like you in Cleveland,NC.

We didn't ask for assignment to Springfield...no choice in the matter. Now if you were ever in Springfield when ATT took over from Active, then you saw what Troha was capable of. He had serious MUSCLE at the gate...I'm talking special ops guys. It was a shame how the Teamsters lost that contract but that's the way it went.

Too many (if not most) 'Red Circle Drivers' who identified themselves as such to me were completely 'cliquish' at best and often had overrated opinion of themselves. I recall working with one 'red circle'(?) last year; we had nearly identical start dates - this guy was all dressed for the dance and had an impressive collection of tools but he seemed to be completely lost. I thought he was a 'new hire' in disguise! I saw him again just a few weeks back for the first time since last year; he wasn't happy to see me. Oh well.

'Special OPS' first came to my attention during the 2005 union vote; many of whom identified themselves as 'red circle' while the ones who didn't identify openly deferred to 'red circle' and 'Dan' at the Springfield Terminal.

For some time now, it appears that 'problem people' are being routed to Laredo when a known quantity of 'red circle' will be present. I've witnessed verbal intimidation with the Laredo staff and IAM stewards working in collusion. Some fascinating tactics but nothing I haven't seen or witnessed before. Perhaps some or all of these Special OPS people (employee relations 'consultants') have been instructed to ID themselves as 'red circle'?

The San Antonio operation is interesting in that it doesn't seem to serve an obvious purpose except to match 'problem people' with 'problem loads'?

A great job with a disreputable employer unfortunately.

Consider this, Unimark is trying to create an aura, ruse if you will, that you are an "independent contractor". Let's look into this for a moment. A true independent would bring to the table so to speak, 1) experience, 2) all equipment necessary to do the job, 3) all necessary permits, insurance, etc., 4) would submit a price, to include all costs - fuel, etc. to do the job, 5) invoice for the job once complete, 6) would operate as a business to include corporate standing, LLC, etc. complete with letterhead, etc. a business bank account ad infinitum. None of this is the case with Unimark, quite the opposite. In terms of their pay calculation their agreement did state that they pay based upon Household Mover Guide, Practical Miles, however Unimark states they bill their client and pay the driver based on PC miler. Now let us move to the issue of required insurance. Their agreement states that you must provide proof of work comp coverage or purchase Occupational Accident Insurance through Unimark, to be deducted weekly. Here is an interesting divergence, you are "contracting" with Unimark, yet you will find the insurance is a "blanket" policy purchased and in the name of JHT Holdings, to which they merely add or delete people as they come and go. The summary of benefits, and certificate of insurance shows " Specified owner operators of JHT Holdings". The insurance brokerage will send you the info with a cover letter, making several references to you being "leased" to Unimark. So, one might be of the opinion that Unimark is trying to create the appearance that you have leased equipment to them and that you are something you are not, i.e. an "owner operator". Would this be to claim the exemption that you are an owner operator engaged in interstate trucking so Unimark/JHT can "dodge" the requirement of workman's comp. coverage? Apparently that is the only exemption here or you are required to carry work comp., see a pattern? Go to other blog for info. on what they may be doing with sticking you with tax liability you cannot get off your back (legit anyway).
