:biggrin_25513:.WE FEEL LIKE TRUCK SITTERS INSTEAD OF TRUCK DRIVERS ALOT. We have been in this business long enough to know that there are periods of time that miles will drop. Crete / Shaffer lost alot of their freight lanes last fall and they haven't recovered. They have been telling us they were securing more team freight but it hasn't happened. They try to keep our miles up by dispatching us on alot of solo runs but .. it doesn't work for a team. You feel burnt out, your hours to drive are uneven between drivers, and alot of SITTING getting unloaded and between loads. 44CPM EQUALS NOTHING IF YOU ARE SITTING.
DETENTION: Yes they pay detention ...ONLY IF THE SHIPPER OR CONSIGNEE PAYS DETENTION (VERY FEW DO). The solos are really getting hit hard too. Maybe the teams are soaking up their freight.

Something is going on with the company: They have completely closed terminals, unstaffed some making them dropyards, and layed off staff. The terminals look like parking lots with trucks with no drivers. In the last few months when we were at a terminal, we talked to more than one driver each time that was turning in their truck because of miles or not being able to get home as promised.

We really don't want to look for another company but we need to work.

    Lonesome Thanks this.

Crete has been declining for several years due to the clown running the company... Tonn Ostergaurd...he has done everything he could possibly do to screw up what was a highly sought after job to another company that's anti driver.

I agree with every thing lady finger is saying. My wife and I run team for Shaffer. We have been running team for 13 years. We are sitting again. (24 hrs). Should of went with Kennesaw. We have been here for 1 year. Started out great and slowly getting worse. Time to move on. I hate job hopping but it's too frustrating here. Drivers are not there most valuable resource!!!

Y'all are dead on!!! We drive for Shaffer and we too are sitting over 24 hours so we can pickup a solo run. Not very happy. We'll stick around for awhile hoping things will get better. Me and my wife have a great work history. Drivers deserve better. Multiple drivers have quit. I don't know how they can keep teams by running them on solo freight.

I am new to this forum.. I just signed up. Does anyone know the reason things are so bad at Crete / Shaffer? Me and my husband work for them too. I was hoping things would get better. I was on this website looking around when I saw this post about Crete / Shaffer. I wish I could disagree with most of the post.. but I can't.

How long has Crete-Shaffer been under Mr. Osterguad's management? I figured something was up when they sent out msgs on qcomm about terminal changes.

In response to 4foot9's question. We called and TRIED to talk to our terminal mgr to find out what was going on with our miles and team runs. She told us the company had lost customer contracts. What blew my mind is that she was quick to tell us if we wanted to quit she would totally understand. Really??? I thought we were their most valuable resource. We have a good record, no accidents or service failures ... One would think they would want to keep drivers instead telling them it's ok to quit.

That should send up red flags...when a company encourages drivers so to speak to quit...

Crete/Shaffer/Hunt is just your usual hot air balloon, the most valuable asset is Tonn's BMW, like he himself said awhile back "Drivers Are A Dime A Dozen" Things have steadily gone downhill, don't know where I should start first...The Asset Manager program=Joke, this was a broadcasted move to enhance productivity but the drivers have noticed the opposite. Taking away the multiple option load offers was a piss on your leg move. After eccepting a Pre-plan, you now get saddled with comments about the load such as 4 FREE HOURS are given at shipper/receiver, what a crock. Getting payed city to city miles instead of addresses, I ate many extra free miles driving Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Omaha ect. Weekend dispatch are abunch of donkeys. Let's say you have a 0600 delivery so you assume I will be available 2 hrs later, so you let them know that you will be available at 0800 for your next load, you send in you mt call at 0800 and you receive your next preplan that does not pu until late in the evening.....what a waste of time. These jackalopes have no clue on productivity. First year at that oufit I went through 4 differant trucks, First was a 07 Century class with 480,000 miles that the previous driver abandoned a few blocks from his house, had that for 3 months before the company sold it, than 3 ProStars that the previous drivers had issues with and those same issues continued with me.
