This is my personal experience over the past year. I will keep this factual and try to keep emotion out of it. There are things that if I had known before they happened I might have done different.
The day I finished the "SR" track I was told that afternoon and not before there was a 3-4 week wait on company trucks. That very morning the person in charge made it seem as though there would be a truck available that day...
After locating my own truck owned by an owner/operator I signed a letter of resignation with CR England but that started a whole new "non-understanding" of how a non-employee relationship occurs. First off as a driver in an owner/operator truck you have all sorts of rights but you have no rights. If your driver manager should yell at you for no good reason like, you were assigned a load you can do nothing with and refuse the load they are allowed to yell at you. Then the fun really begins....
You take your first student whom the company tells you how they are supposed to be at a certain level and can be trusted. So then after you experience how inexperienced this student is and stay up for his shift then yours and you pull over for a rest at 3am and are awoken by a load manager and they take the load be prepared that the yelling and accusing coming from your driver manager and safety manager is just S.O.P.
On their Qualcomm message machines their is this message form where it tells you that if your being asked to do something illegal or unsafe that message will be seen by upper management.. Go ahead and fill that puppy out. You will find out eventually that message goes nowhere and the only way upper management would be able to see that message is if they cared enough to log into the system where they apparently don't so when your pulling out your hair because even the "safety manager" ridicules you for doing something that your legally entitled to or makes accusations that are unfounded you will want to know that those concerns do not get seen by anyone.
Be also advised that even though you signed a letter of resignation and hold no standing with the company in regards to how you are treated CR England still gets to rate you to "dac" as though you are in-fact an employee. With "dac" there are no qualifiers about training a student or driving not for the company or being in an owner/operator truck, to them you are a defacto employee.
Pretty good deal I'd say. They get a payment from the government because of you. They can treat you any-which way they want without being held accountable and then they can post false things about you and call you their employee when you've signed a paper resigning from them... What a deal!!!
In my "SR" class of eight about a year ago there is only, I think, one driver left. He was an experienced driver and leased a truck and usually when I hear from him he can't afford to buy food and lives out of his truck...

§ 392.3Ill or fatigued operator. No driver shall operate a commercial motor vehicle, and a motor carrier shall not require or permit a driver to operate a commercial motor vehicle, while the driver's ability or alertness is so impaired, or so likely to become impaired, through fatigue, illness, or any other cause, as to make it unsafe for him/her to begin or continue to operate the commercial motor vehicle. However, in a case of grave emergency where the hazard to occupants of the commercial motor vehicle or other users of the highway would be increased by compliance with this section, the driver may continue to operate the commercial motor vehicle to the nearest place at which that hazard is removed.

If your to TIRED TO DRIVE, your employer cannot force you to roll.
Why dont newbies read the fmcsa rule book? It also protects us the driver. -
Not sure what you are trying to get across here. I'm quite sure it is normal in any profession to learn things along the way.... I am sure even you have learned things in your experience that you didn't know before....

Should have looked them up before you went to work there -
Just telling it like it is.... I had real experience there. Unfortunately it was alot of bad experiences. I do believe this forum area is regarding people's experiences that people actually have. Everything I have written is true because I experienced it. I believe there is a forum for people with good experiences.

I made the mistake of driving for those blood suckers..they gave me a "driver" that had made it through their "rigorous" training program and just needed a little more guidance..
I should have known better..at receiver he backed into dock, trailer was straight as an arrow but the tractor was at a 45 degree angle blocking a door, and he thought it was ok..
I left him at a Wendy's after waking up to the sound of horns..(No it wasn't Gabrielle calling me home) we were sitting sideways, blocking 5 lanes at a toll booth in New York, when I "asked" wtf! Are you doing? He said "there was a line, and the lane over there opened up, so I turned" lmfao!!..UGH!! -
you're absolutely right,this is the place to tell us about your exp and im glad you did.Only sad thing is ppl read these forums all the time and just don't listen.Then think somehow it's going to be different with them.
