If your a professional driver, never go to work for National. They hired me and I had to go to their orientation, on the third day, they pulled me out of class, I thought I was getting a truck. But instead, they said they did not "like" my "kind" of experience, whatever that means. No warning or nothing and I spent almost a grand for a rental car btwn the cost of going to Dallas,TX from Florida and the cost of the rental going back to Florida. This was after I passed the driving test, drug screen and background checks. What morons! Avoid them like the plauge! They lie!!! They also only reimburse the rental, for up to the price of a bus ticket. frm Florida to Texas that's $241.00 both ways,so when the rental's more expensive you loose that money!

no company anywhere will reimburse you more then a bus fare
your choice to rent a car

almost all companies going to orientation is really an interview to get a job

good luck in your future searches

What kind of experience did you have that National Carriers did not like?

This is where we have arrived. With so many qualified truckers out there for so few of the better driving positions, a carrier can need 3 drivers, call in 8 for an orientation, lose only 3 for physical/drugs, or other issues, then pick the 3 they like the best from who's left. And they can use any number of various criteria to cull out the excess. I'm not going to say this is the case here, but for the better carriers who can be choosy, appearance, personality and attitude conveyed does matter, when all else is even between applicants.

I'm not sure if National Carriers is even considered a "better carrier", but they are a long way from being in the same group as the mega-carriers. I'm actually surprised they even pre-hired you out of Florida.

key word is always pre hire
though national runs into florida quite a bit
when your turned down during orientation they use all kinds of excuses that are not the whole story

Most professional drivers wouldn't even go to a company who uses those sliding pay scales. I think you should be thankful. That company doesn't have a very good reputation. Stick with a bottom feeder out of Florida and you will save a few bucks.

What exactly is a sliding pay scale?

Also, what is the current reputation of National Carriers?

    Please advise.

    Thank you.

A sliding pay scale is another way to screw the driver. Like a different rate for empty miles and a different rate if the run is farther. Total crap

    A. why rent a car to go that far to a orientation?. B. why sign on with a company that far from your house?. And C. why is the company good enough to rent a car to go try out for but now sucks because they did not hire you?

Both KLLM and USX flew me to orientation. I don't ride on Buses, they suck.

Stay close to home. If you don't get hired, it is only a short drive home.

Lonesome, pattyj and mje Thank this.
