I am posting this to inform potential drivers from getting into a a situation that could bankrupt you and your family if hurt on the job.

Design Transportation is a NON Subscriber to Workers Compensation. What is that you ask? If you are hurt on the job as I was they are self insured which means you will have limited coverage and will be sent to clinics instead of specialists. They also can arrange for these clinics to release you back to work pre maturely with NO restrictions to save money and hurt your condition further not to mention the general public.

After I was rear ended by another truck on 6/26/13 I saw a Neurologist on my own finally in early August and paid for it myself in order to get a good diagnosis which was, severe disc herniation in neck and NOT to return to work until I had surgery. When they found this out, their Insurance company told the clinic to release me to full duty wth NO RESTRICTIONS. If I did NOT return within a few days they would fire me !!!

Sounds ridiculas I know, however they fired me. I would make sure YOU as a driver make sure to understand what COVERAGE the company has before signing the dotted line. Make sure they have Workers Compensation ONLY if they are based in Texas. Texas is the only state which allows a company to choose so beware!!

As far as me, I lost my car due to Design stopping my benefits and close to losing my house. My surgery is Sep 4th and will still have 4 weeks of recovery after that with NO Income.NO DRIVER sould have to be hit by another driver then be fired while still in recovery then lose their financial stability.

I will keep everyone posted of what happens after my recovery. And Please heed to my advise.

    Be Safe and God Bless!

I spoke to a friend of mine still at Design. Looks like they have gutted most of the vital personel. VP of Safety Gone....HR Supervisor...Gone.....3 Fleet Managers...Gone....Driver Advocate...Gone....Deanne in Recruiting....Gone...All that is left is Noone that really gave a #### in the first place...35 drivers also quit over the last week....I have less than 2 weeks to recover from my neck surgery and will be looking for another driving job..so if anyone knows of a good carrier that needs a well experienced driver...Let me know.

    Thanks Everyone!! Gunney

Don't believe every thing you read about a company on these sites. TX requires all companies to provide workers' comp insurance. I don't know what is required to be covered but if you are hurt on the job Worker's Comp is supposed to take care of all medical costs as well as replace a percentage of your lost income. I just got off the phone with Design, as I used to work there myself, and they have Worker's Comp Insurance.

The original post really concerned me because I am currently on Worker's Comp from my current employer.

This post doesn't make any sense. Why would you randomly post this months after this thread died? And why would you randomly "just get off the phone" with design related to work comp coverage? And you are also randomly happen to be on work comp as well. If this isn't a company man on the defensive I don't know who is

    highwayman Thanks this.

Who cares what the date on this thread is? But since y'all brought it up, it was started in Sept of this past year. I am on Worker's Comp, for torn rotator cuff and biceps tendon tear in my left shoulder that occurred with my present employer, Koch Trucking. I deliver Polaris Ranger, side x side UTVs, from a dry van and have to set up 4 sections of ramps that each way 100# plus the bridge that ways in at about another 75. The sections are stored under the side of the trailer and getting them out and putting them away is how I injured myself. I do not and will not work in the office at Design, although I do keep in contact with Rick, who is the longest tenured Dispatcher that works for the company. I do not apologize for nor make excuses for any company, just remember that there is always more than one side to any STORY that is posted on this or any other website. Old and Broken
