kag treats the drivers at kenan as a bunch of rejects from companies they had bought out. when you hire on you'll go about a month without a pay check, your terminal manager will not tell you that, up front. Dispatch will not work with trainers to get the driver trained properly, you'll be in training for about 2 or 3 months getting $150 training pay per day. Our shift is about 13 to 14 hours a day. In the south we are the lowest paid drivers that kag has, also no RESPECT. I no longer work there, because I got tired of all the back room deals that my terminal manager was making with other drivers. that has not been working there as long as I have. I worked there for 9 terrible years. YOU only get paid by the load, you have to give kenan 1 hour before you go on downtime. If you wait 2 hours to load ,you'll only get paid for 1 hour. Thats the KAG and Kenan way.

9 years as a gas hauler? You will find something better in less than a week. In fact, I'd take two weeks off before I even started to look.

I worked for a company based in West Sacramento,Ca. that was bought up by Kenan years ago. When the owner sold it, he told Kenan that he would help them run it for 2 years, then his ' management team' will run it. Well, we found out the hard way that the 'management team' were nothing but a bunch of bullies. Since these guys had no marketing experience, we lost most of our big accounts. Now that these guys showed they could not cultivate customers, nor could they generate revenue, the solution was to cut driver pay, which helped the bottom line in the short run. Then they took away the bonuses, it helped in the short run, but still no marketing. Middle management said we had to take the cuts to help the company, but what happened was the cuts went to middle managements pockets, but the then vice-president rode up on a new tricked out Harley saying he bought that out of his bonus he received for his cost cutting measures. The terminal manager drove in with a huge Ford F-350 with every option, saying he bought that out of his 'retention bonus' for his years of service. Back room deals are the norm, not the exception. If you don't spend what little personal time you have doing stuff off the clock for the terminal manager and his friends, you can and WILL be suspended.( I still hold a message that my terminal manager left on my answering machine suspending me for not washing a friend of his truck, an activity we are not paid for.) there are no time clocks, pay is based on management whims. I've helped out at Kenan terminals in Florida, and was well treated, but things could have changed. Physical intimidation occurs, rumour mongering, shorting of pay, even vandalism occurs to those who don't know the secret hand shake. There was 50 drivers between 2 shifts when I started there, they were down to 13 between 2 shifts when I left. They brag about they're VIP safety program, if you don't make a mistake in 5 years, you will get a $13,000.00 bonus. Really, they will give a truck driver $13,000.00! as the 5 year deadline nears, they find 'mistakes' they'll use tape measurers to say your cones are to far from the truck, ( though the are no policies that say how far away the cones should be.) only ' the favourites' will see a bonus if anyone does. Do not work for Kenan or KAGwest in California unless you like the above conditions.

Yes, It was Beneto Tanklines. I was employed there 15years.

Thanks. I never worked for them but I loaded on the same racks at Chico.born&raisedintheusa Thanks this. -
I've off loaded ethanol many times @ KM Chico. When middle management comes and shows off their new toys, and brag about the new toys they bought with bonuses received after YOU just took a $15,000.00 pay cut, it does not make for a quality work environment. They used to hand out graphs of revenue generated of all the companies in the kenan group, the former Beneto terminals (except Pheonix terminal) were at the bottom as the least profitable. PCT seems to generate the most money. I felt I was working for someone's Ponzi scheme. I would not recommend working for them now, give them 5yrs, they may be viable then. be safe out there.
