You're 100% absolutely correct. A background check only takes 24 hours to complete using the right websites and their services. Even the UA can be done from most anywhere and the results emailed to the carrier. I know because I worked in an office for several years doing background checks and orientation on new hires for a tanker company.

There are a bunch of drivers that fill out multiple applications and get multiple prehires and fail to show up. Why waste the companies time and money investigating one's that don't show up?

Good point. Still, I would rather pay a company a $30 deposit (which is the cost of the background check) to insure I was hired before giving a notice to the current company that I was working for. If for some legitimate reason I'm not hireable then the company keeps my $30. That's just my two cents worth.

Tried to send private message, but wasn't allowed to.

Try these & once your wife gets 12 months a whole new world will open:

Tyson Foods - 70 mph trucks
    JBS Carriers
    SVTN
    CTL Transportation
    Southern Refrigerated Transport
System Transport - trucks have APU's

US Express has a good reputation for husband/wife teams. Not good for solo drivers though.

Never gonna happen. Most companies are in the business of saving money. And if that means they get to send you home at the expense of the potential driver, so be it. Now, I'm not trying to argue here, I feel you should be hired before getting on a bus, plane or driving to orientation--however, they will never see it that way. Recruiters see you as a dollar sign, and orientation sees you as an expense. Until the two start to see you as "our most valuable resource" (as they all claim) orientation will continue to be "paid, with motel room, transportation provided on the condition you are hired after your three day job interview."

    1. They really run 70 mpg? Guess something has to make up for all that delayed time at the dock. lol

    2. Don't die on the road if you drive for them. And no I'm not joking.

From what's been posted about delay time; Tyson Truck aren't delayed. KLLM has a huge contract to haul Tyson loads so they get the garbage and delay loads. I haven't worked there, just posting what I learned on here.
