    mesilla valley trucking

    Mesilla valley trucking just did my husband really dirty he was driving for Werner but wanted a company closer to home he applied for Mesilla valley trucking. they said he was hired done deal. he turns in his two week notice wich Mesilla valley knew he was doing then when he gets to Mesilla valley trucking they tell him he has no job.

    OK so what did your husband say the reason was?Many drivers get disqualified during the orientation process.So what did Mesilla send him home for?He can get his job back at Werner if he wants to.Oh another thing,you're never hired till you go thru all of orientation.Your husband was prehired not hired.

    Oh another thing,you're never hired till you go thru all of orientation.Your husband was prehired not hired.
    Yah; and this needs to change. People turn their lives upside-down when switching companies. There is absolutely no reason why any company can't get all their background work, and qualification work done BEFORE they schedule a driver for orientation.

    As long as a driver doesn't lie on their application (and the company doesn't "discover it" before orientation), or fail a physical/drug screen......it should be a 'given' that you have a job when you get there (sometimes half way across the country).

    Companies are in such a hurry to fill their orientation classes, that they'll tell you 10 minutes after they receive your application, the famous line "everything looks good, we can get you in here as early as Monday".....when the fact of the matter is, they did nothing more than a computer check of your MVR.

    I had been through this with a couple companies (one being J.B. Hunt)....where you got to orientation, and they basically had YOU do your own background check for 3 days. I was never disqualified, because I put ALL information 'truthfully' on the ORIGINAL application, and I passed the physical and drug screen----but I saw a lot of people turned away for one reason or another (atleast one of which couldn't explain a one month gap in his work history).

    That "gap" in his history could have been found and questioned LONG before he was ever brought to orientation.

    Trucking companies are heartless, careless scum in my opinion. Yes; I realize SOME of it can be the drivers own fault....but for the most part, there is no reason with all the forms of investigation available to trucking companies, why anything and everything can't be discovered and the driver be disqualified before everyones time and money have been wasted.

    Driver applications are 14 pages long now for the love of GOD. They have you fill out and sign EVERYTHING related to a strict, governed, extensive background check....yet it seems companies don't bother to utilize the documents until they have your can in a chair 600 miles from your house (or last job).

    Before someone tries' to tell me "companies don't always have the time for that"---yes they do; the information is all there, and they have people on the payroll to do just that. A couple phone calls, a couple faxes, a little time at a computer, a check with HireRight, and they should have EVERYTHING they need to give you a 'yah' or a 'nay' BEFORE orientation.

    I don't understand it either.When I drove for CFI,they didn't start doing the background checks till the first day of orientation,3 got sent home.What the heck does the recruiters do .I start Hills Brothers this Monday,took recruiter almost 2 weeks to do my back ground checks.Mainly because she was waiting for verification from all my employers.Alot of drivers spends many hrs on the bus only to get sent home.This is why I will never drive for a company that's hundreds of miles from my home.I would say if a recruiter prehires you within a few hrs or even that day then calls you before she goes home,more then likely she didn't do a full background check

    I have seen ad's that say "Call today, start tomorrow" LOL!!! IMPOSIBLE! It takes a drug test atleast 24 to 48 hours to get results; and it is illegal to put someone behind the wheel before they have the results of a 'negative' result in their possession.

    I drove for Seward Motor Freight, and they walked us one by one to a bathroom outside the orientation room, and did a drug test right there---not sure how legal THAT is (it may be if someone on staff is certified or something), seemed pretty strange and shady to me though.

    Not all true.

    If you just left a company that was drug testing compliant,

    that may clear you to start.

    Companies would waste tons of money, clearing new drivers,

    that NEVER show up for orientation.

    Do you mean, if a person has showed a negative test with someone else, but within 30 days or something? Not sure what you mean.
