This is gonna derail an already derailed thread.
I was talking to an old timer up in Nappa valley while picking up wine, one fine Sunday afternoon (we were literally 1,000 feet off the coast up on a hill...it was a gorgeous day so everyone was out of their trucks and socializing, bout 10 doors, all docked.)
I got this particular load early in my driving career, it was the first time I'd ran the grapevine and was blown away by how beautiful it was. I was #### chatting with a couple drivers and brought that fact up. This guy who looked like the only thing holding him together was worn out collagen, and hatred goes "Oh #### son, musta been fun for you! I've been doing that since my dad made me go down it when I was 14 so at this point it's a PITA."
He was so old, I honestly believed him. Then he goes on to tell me how his dad was riding the grapevine back when they used just service brakes, and had water dispensers to slowly pour onto the brakes to keep them cool enough to take more heat.
When I really take a step back from my OTR life, and think about the complaint's that came about when ever I had a small issue, I try to remember what it would be like rolling down a hill with a tank of water dictating my outcome at the bottom.
I wonder if that driver is alive, still?
Jakes are overrated, anyhow...

One of my school instructors reminds me of that guy...been driving since he was a teenager now hes 55+ and you can see it in his eyes. His record impeccable and arms the size of cannons from driving w/out power steering. The wise old drivers have many a story to tell but its a rare occasion that the humble ones share them. He did tell me he didnt like e-logs because you can only run 1 of them at a time though
Western flyer, cabwrecker and Drac1985 Thank this. -

Dude calm down already. Thanks for all the name calling and assumptions, it really brings a lot to the table. Stay safe out there, I'm done with this.

Western Express hires people most companies wouldn't even look twice at. They pay next to nothing because of this. If you can't get a fair shake somewhere else this would be a last choice company.
Orientation on the other hand is not a vacation. I'm not a job hopper but I wouldn't expect food or the Hilton. I would expect the option to get my own room for a fee, and access to a soda machine. -
Melton sure does their share of soliciting. I get phone calls and emails 2 or 3 times a month and I never applied. So tell me, what kind of great pay package do they offer and what do they serve for lunch at orientation. ;p
