When you turn a truck in, a mechanic will inspect it and note what needs to be fixed. The mechanic will give you a copy of that note, so you know what repairs you're going to be charged with. There aren't any suprises. The only items the mechanic noted for my truck was the arm rest on the drivers seat fell off, the work station was broken, and a reflector mirror was missing from the cross member.

He didn't see that the AWS was bonded to the dashboard by future glue. :biggrin_25523:

.....their logo isn't on anything I drive or haul. Wait...that's good for me...

Well, there was that rookie driver three years ago who realized he wasn't going to make that back, and when I got out to guide him, he pulled the air brake, threw his hands up and asked if I would back it for him. It was good that my (then) blue paint didn't wind up on his DOT bumper.

Had a student pull that one on me. My response was "Nope, you're going to put this truck in that hole if it takes you all night. What do you expect when you get out on your own? The customer to back in the truck for you?" You're only going to learn backing through experience, not by watching someone else do it. Also, your setup is everything. If you don't know how to set up the truck properly, you're not going to back into the spot you want to be in.

    venne Thanks this.

I didn't want to be awake all night listening to him pull up, back in, pull up, back in and waiting for the telltale crunch.

I would of loved to of seen exactly what kind of spot they got him to back into i've only had a couple of instances where i just could not back into a spot and i considered myself as a very good reverser.

I almost did that with my phase 2 trainer. We were at a Pilot in Missouri and after I fueled and went to the bathroom I started to take off. I didn't even see my trainer leave the sleeper and use the restroom. He would always close the curtains when he would leave the sleeper berth.

When I was leaving the fuel island I saw some guy waiving at me and I thought to myself that he looked a lot like my phase 2 trainer. That's when I realized there was nobody in the sleeper. If he would have been a minute longer inside the pilot I would have taken off and probably wouldn't have realized I left him behind until my drive shift was over.

On my trainer's truck, we had a deal: Whenever the person who was supposed to be in the sleeper got out of the truck, the map book went on the driver seat. Nobody ever got left behind. But if they did, it would have been their own fault for not putting the atlas on the seat.
