Ok so I wanted to post my experience working at langer transport as an owner operator since there seems to be very little information on this company on this site. First I would like anyone interested in working for this company to know that all load load rates are a big secret and if you ask what a load rate is their policy is to not tell you. In other words any load you pull you will not know what the load pays until you get paid. I ran a load that was 650 miles round trip and the load paid me 65% of 1035.00 my cut was 672.00 (1.03 per mile), another load I did was 1550.00 miles round trip and that load paid 2071.00 65% to me was 1346.00 (0.89 cents a mile). These loads do not include the FSC amount paid because I wanted to only show the very low freight rate amounts that they say they are charging their customers. Now any O/O that drive tankers realize that these rates are very low for tank freight. Also to add insult to their rates it seems that if you have not been there for a very long time that you will be offered only low mileage loads unless one of the more favorite drivers wants a holiday off or something like that. Also if you want to lose even more of your pay, no problem there either, They will take 75.00 for every preloaded trailer that is preloaded for you which is about 90% of the loads you will hook to. Lets do the math on this! If you hook up to 6 preloaded trailers in a one month time period that's 450.00 you lose in revenue. Now lets times that by 12, Wow that 5400.00 a year you lose in revenue just for hooking to a preloaded trailer.

So if any of you guys out there cannot seem to get a straight answer about how this company pays I hope this will help anyone considering signing on with them.

Low Rates + Preload Cost = Stay Away!

Thanks for the info. Can't imagine not knowing. I am not yet an owner operator. I can't imagine being in businesses and not knowing the revenue produced by any work before it began.

nightwatcher, i know nothing about being an O/O -and i hope this doesn't come off wrong --but as an O/O you are a sub contractor so i guess my question would be - why would you agree to pull anything before knowing what the job pays ?
I know these companies you lease on to LOAN you money to pay for plates --and insure the load but thats it right ?
If they dont tell you what the load pays cant you just walk away ?

Yikes! I always thought they were suppose to be one of the better ones. I learned the hard way years ago with Chemical Leaman that they are all pretty much crooks. There rates weren't bad but they were always shorting me on little things. Im guessing Langer does a lot of short haul runs. There is a company truck that parks near me 7 days a week that never seems to move.

You are right , I am a sub contractor but when I signed on to this company I just figured that if I ask what the load paid that I would be told. I have never been leased onto a company that does this. I do have my own plates and they pay cargo insurance but that does not matter. I do turn down lots of loads and will only be here until I can find a better outfit to go with. From what I have been told Liquid transport and dana does the same to their O/O. It seems that more companies are trying to move to this practice.

You are correct. They do a lot of 300 mile radius stuff which is nothing and since you are driving back empty 90% of the time just do the math. 1200 - 1800 miles a week plus don't forget the preload charge of 75.00 if your load was preloaded which 95% of the time it is.

O/O, not lease purchase. But the guys that I have talked to that are lease purchased though them say that once the truck is paid off the load selection gets really bad. I am not sure why they choose to stay here, maybe because they think that they are making good money and they have not seen the other side of the coin but I can tell you that the rates that they say they are charging their customers is at least 20 -30% off what the better tank outfits are charging or either they are lying about the rates and shorting the drivers, I tend to believe the latter.

My truck doesn't move if I don't know the rate. 1st time they wouldn't tell me I would tell them to call me when they know the rate.
Running for those rates you are going deeper in the hole every load you pull. I wouldn't Waite another minute before I left them. But that's just me. Can't see everyone else getting paid off of my truck and my time/labor except me. I ain't doing volunteer work.
