The way I'm reading it on this website, is that the condition for drivers is poor. Therefore, people will go to the schools and at one time or another, in a short period of time, will quit trucking as u've discribed above.

One comment said that the state of Washington knows of the problems for drivers and has made laws to protect drivers, but nobody enforces them, neither a police authority, nor the civil court system,(try sueing a bussiness these days). Laws no one enforces r worthless and a fraud on the public.

At this point, I can only come to one conclusion on the subject of poor, and or overly demanding treatment of drivers. That is that the compaines make money on their schools. At the same time they supply enough drivers to more than meet their needs. :biggrin_25516:

I once considered working for JB HUnt. But their recruiter was so obnoxious and such a smart aleck, I told him to shove it. Glad I made that decision in retrospect!

JBHs financials are so good because they lie and steal from their hard working drivers! Mathematics are simple, really.

Has anyone considered the fact that there are numerous government paid programs that sponsor/pay for truck driver training?

A majority of truck school graduates do not even pay for their own training!

The fact is that the government is paying for individuals who are UNEMPLOYED and receiving government assistance already in one form or another.... to be trained as truck drivers.

Often, if the "recipient" is not willing to complete a training program in one of the offered areas......... they will stop receiving their assistance....

    Soooo....
    • you have people who are on assistance and already have issues with getting/keeping a job....
    • these people are told they MUST complete some kind of training to keep getting "their money"
    • they are given options like hard manual labor (welders/construction) and "sitting in a truck and driving"....
    • the training is provided free to these people so they have no personal stake or investment
    • these people then go to a truck driving school and get "trained"
Why is it such a surprise that many of them do not make it as truck drivers????

    I am confused by all the confusion??? :biggrin_25524: :yes2557: :biggrin_25512: :biggrin_25526:

    "Thanks for your attention....feel free to go back to your regular griping about every company out there."("quote from jb"}

The greatest thing of all about drivers is their honesty. Something you will never in your life time know.
We all may complain about a company, the thing is IT"S THE TRUTH something you and many other companies don't know about. We also can either bring you lots of money by our hard work, or we can choose not to work for you and help to BREAK you!!!!!!!
So you go on recruiting jb and those of us who can help in anyway to keep other drivers from working for you we will do what we need to.
When you start listening, stop lying, and care about the drivers you just might be successful.
I drove for a company that jb under bid them. jb signed a contract to haul for cents, I am not kidding just so they could get the contract. Our little company we worked for lost a huge contract because of it..
You are the one that posted here trying to recruit. That says alot in itself.

I wouldn't want to work for any company that is so ignorant of JB's reputation that they would use them as recruiters.

Just a little article I read about J.B. HUNT in the June 2008 SMART MONEY magazine.

The US trucking business is under siege; total freight shipped is down and fuel costs are up-way up. The stocks of most trucking firms have jackknifed over the past year as investors have shied away from the industry. But JB Hunt Transport Service keeps rolling along, with its shares recently trading just barely below their all time high.

The Lowell, Ark. based firm has kept on trucking by becoming the middleman between railroads and retailers. Companies like Wal-Mart hire JB to haul goods over to the rail yard, where the stuff gets loaded onto a train for shipment. That way customers save a hefty fuel surcharges that long-haul truckers impose when gas prices are high. At the same time, JB efficient business model has allowed it to increase its return on capital more than 30 percent, more than triple the trucking industries average of only 9%. Feeding the railroad accounts for about 45% of JB's revenue of 3.5 billion and nearly two thirds of its 369$ million in operating profit.

Of Course, JB is hurt along with other truckers by the downturn in the traditional hauling of goods around the country. That part of its business fell 13% last year and doesn't look like it will rebound for at least several months. JB Hunt trades at 20 times 2008's expected profits of 199$million, or 1.57 a share, a pricey evaluation for any transportation stock. Still, UBS transportation analyst Rick Paterson says JB is one of the best-run truckers, and its truck to rail business will keep profit from sinking too low. And if recent history is any guide, trucking stocks could jump at the first hint of economy recover....

I DIDN'T WRITE THIS PERSONALLY... ITS AN ARTICLE.. Thought you all would enjoy reading it..

There is no doubt that JB is run smart as far as making good decisions that affect the bottom line. They have always been among the first at inventing new ways to increase profits. Many times these new ways have came at the expense of drivers, but they are a company out to make money, not baby sit and nurture drivers. This is good for the company, not so good for drivers.

JB was one of the first to go into mass training of newbies and set them up as team drivers while training at a lower wage. JB was a among the first to buy trucks with bigger sleepers, and eventually condo cabovers when they first came out. They were able to keep drivers on the road longer this way. JB moved to conventional tractors when the cabovers wore out in order to recruit drivers. Look at their trucks today. They may be plain white freightliners, but they are Centurys instead of Columbias, and they have aluminum wheels all around, and really look good for fleet trucks.

They basically are the WalMart of trucking. They may crap all over drivers, but love them or hate them, they are the best at what they do, which is making money.
