Average load length with deadhead is in the mid 600s. Not too shabby these days for dry van at large carriers.
A Crete recruiter called me This Morning.

Had a Werner driver asking me some questions yesterday. He's got 8 years experience and (according to him), he's making .29 a mile. They just gave him a brand new KW. I'm thinking there's more to this, but it was what it was. Maybe I'll get a referral bonus....yippee.xlsdraw Thanks this. -
8 years and 29 cents a mile, I dunno, I got to suspect they can't be worth more than that. Mind blowing

There's no way the ### clown with one year or less experience working for Crete is making any more than .36 cpm. Which makes perfect sense that he's making 2800 miles a week. Which is what i made at may Trucking after 6 months starting out at .31 cpm. I drove from CA to PA every week and had trouble doing 2800 miles a week in a truck that went 62 mph. And after 14 months I went from .36 cpm at May to .44 cpm at heartland w/haz-mat. So the guy who's been driving for 14 years isn't making crap working at Crete either. I left Heartland to basically make .50 cpm driving local/regional flatbed. That was at just under 2 years in. After 2 years of flatbed i found a local job that pays by the hour, with over time, home every night, 9 paid holidays, vacation, 2 types of insurance, 401k, uniforms hoe every night by 6pm, home every weekend and 10 mins from the house. It's gotta suck to be a worker bee your whole life.

So basically. You're saying you had 5k mile weeks. Let's pretend you devote 1 hour a day to on-duty time. So now you're down to 63 hours. If you divide 5000/63 = 79.36. So you're average speed every where you go is 80 mph huh? I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one.
FlatBeddersWife and zentrucking Thank this. -

Benefits for family can be more important than the base pay. It is the for the family, such as dentist, low co pay, retirement. You cannot afford to not start a 401 or Roth if offered by the company . Also when you buy something of value such as a car ,motorcycle ,bass boat etc you cannot afford to NOT get short term disability on the loan. Break a leg have an accident the payment is made for you . NO financial drain on a very limited income. Considering the current political environment it could turn out to be just a throw of the dice. planning never hurts tho.
