I am a driver for RoadRunner Intermodal which is also Morgan Southern Inc. We operate out of Calumet City, IL. This company used to be a good company. We used to have a pretty decent terminal manager named Clay but he got relocated to GA. Basically we are a local/regional intermodal company that's mostly L/P(lease purchase) drivers who are hating their jobs. The work itself isn't bad, it's the money and office staff that makes it horrible.

David T-David T is the senior dispatcher. He has been there the longest of the office staff. He is a 20 something year old white guy that barley graduated high school, has never been outside of his small town, racist, disrespectful, and down right does not care for the drivers and has no problem saying so. His interaction with drivers is always an unpleasant experience. He yells, makes disrespectful smart remarks, curses at you, refuses to load you if he is angry with you or will purposely give you crap loads that he knows won't pay you anything. He hates it when drivers ask him questions concerning pay on the loads and will often just ignore you. He has been known for purposely aggravating drivers and even dispatchers with the agenda to get them to quit or hit him so he can call the police to get them arrested and then fired. David has even went so far as to slander drivers among office staff by talking about very personal information and sharing confidential info about drivers history and personal life. (Edited*) David also changes the price certain loads pay all the time. There are times a load will pay $108 and then a week later that same load will be less.

Mike S-Mike is the current terminal manager. He is a complete and total jerk. He is even more obnoxious and disrespectful than David. This man actually told me from his own mouth that he has forced drivers to quit near the end of their lease by making their job hell and he said he'd do it again. Mike took over a few years ago. The first thing he did as new manager was cut our pay. Then he started making us pay for more and more stuff. That year the company site announced that Mike made terminal manager of the year. The way to do that is to make your terminal produce the biggest profit for the year. He never got new accounts or upped what he charged our current customers so how did he make such big numbers that year with the same freight, customers and wages? He did it by taking a ton of money from the drivers! We lost about a third of our drivers the first few months Mike was manager. He is another one that talks to drivers like they are trash. I've repeatedly heard him speak down to drivers and not care at all. I have even been on the receiving end of his verbal abuse. Mike likes to threaten drivers with not paying them for anything. The over all co census of Mike is he could care less about a driver or his situation. All he cares about is making money and if it's at your expense then so be it. He is a horrible business man and human being.

Jim Morgan & Mark P-Jim Morgan was the head of the company but I believe he has stepped down. I along with plenty other drivers have complained to him about David and Mike's treatment of us and the low pay. Jim appears concerned while on the phone but does absolutely nothing. Mark P is the number 2 guy but he too is posed to do absolutely nothing when it comes to dealing with Mike or David. He takes their side even when they are wrong. Come to find out they are friends and complaining to Mark about Mike "falls on death ears" as Mike so arrogantly stated himself. At the end of the day corporate doesn't seem to care about the drivers just like our office staff. They don't care that we are mistreated, under paid, disrespected, encouraged to take illegal loads, bullied into taking loads in unsafe conditions. Drivers have even appealed to Mark P about transferring just to get away from this office and he denied them with no good reason. I myself expressed to both Jim and Mark that tho the L/P program was instituted to retain drivers, it's really serving as a scar tactic tool. The only reason most drivers are still here is because they don't want to give up the trucks they have been paying on. Plenty drivers have gone broke and even lost their homes trying to stay at this company.

My my suggestion is that you do NOT come to this company. It's horrible and makes me want to quit everyday. Please, you can find a job somewhere else. Working here will only test your patients and raise your blood pressure

The way Roadrunner Morgan southern reels their drivers in is with false promises of good freight and their lease purchase program. The lease program is what drew me. I was a company driver for a while just to get a feel for the company. Then I leased a truck. Bad decision! They send you to Arrow Truck Sales in Bolingbrook to pick out a truck. The problem is you have a low budget to work with and the trucks all have problems with them. You'll be in the shop as soon as you get the truck. I accumulated about $5000 my first few months and our manager could care less. They rob your paycheck with escrows and at the end of the day they are the co-signers on your truck so they still have total control over you. I've looked into taking my truck and leaving but I cannot until it's paid off. Mike S knows this and uses it to his advantage. Same thing for David T. Out of all the companies I've worked for doing intermodal in the last 20 years I have NEVER experienced this kind of treatment. I have never been at a company that doesn't know that the #### drivers are the bread and butter. Truth be told this experience makes me want to get out of trucking all together. It's just not the same anymore. Dealing with these people has had me to where I'm on blood pressure medication and who knows the damage to my nerves. My doctor told me that I should seriously consider a career change because of the stress I'm under. I told him it's not the line of work but it's the people and he suggested I tell them my medical concerns and maybe they could help. When I explained that my terminal manager is the type that would amp up his efforts in that case then he suggested I report him to his boss. I didn't even go into the details of that not working.

As as I stated before I requested to be transferred a few times. I spoke with Mike S and got nowhere. I spoke with Jim Morgan and he said it didn't look good. No real reason. Just it didn't look good. I asked to transfer to our sister company Adrian Carriers and was told by Mark P that I couldn't transfer because it's just not working out with people transferring. He said that when they transfer they wind up coming back. He obviously did not care that I was seriously dissatisfied with working for Mike and David. I spoke with Mike about it in passing one day and he never got back to me. But that's how this company works. Instead of addressing the issues, they rather keep a driver where he is and just look over past the mess. Instead of Mike dealing with David when he does things he just looks past it. And I should not have to take ##### from someone like him. Especially when its my work that's paying his salary. It's all racism driven and something needs to be done about them. To the driver that posted and asked if he should work here my answer is NO! Not unless you are looking for a pain in the bum! There are plenty other good companies to work for. I worked for Comtrak before. They are pretty good. They respect the driver and pay better. Reliable is a toss up. I've pulled for them before but the problem was they didn't have enough accounts. I hear they are doing better now. Stay away from JB Hunt. They have a lot of freight but they don't pay well. I drove for them years ago and it was trash. The smaller the company often the better. My advice is to do your homework. Just don't go to RoadRunner. And if you just have no other choice but RoadRunner then go to Pacella or CWS. They will hire anybody.

RoadRunner don't use recruiters. They use the current drivers to do the recruiting and then they don't pay them the recruiting bonus. I recruited one driver and to this day I ain't got paid for it. I stopped bothering Mike after a while.

My apologies. Yes I'm still here as of now. I still have about a year left on my lease and I really wanted to pay it off since I've invested so much in the truck. I'm caught in the rat race unfortunately.

Apparently there are some things you cannot talk about on here and so my post was edited. You still get the point.

Your post was edited to remove the last names of company employees, and ONLY for that reason. If you wish to use the last names of company owners or other publicly-known principals, that's okay. But, we ask that members not post the last names of other company employees such as drivers, dispatchers, terminal managers, safety people, etc.

Is this the same RoadRunner that runs completely O/O's with their own trailer? This place has ZERO overhead because of that and a friend of mine leased on with them 5 years ago and loves his job. Just curious.

Jasonincincy yes it's the same roadrunner parent company but we are part of one of the smaller companies that Roadrunner owns and we operate differently. From what I hear the guys that drive for rrts all love it. And they get paid so well because of the very thing you mentioned. No overhead. But we are morgan southern and it's like night and day.
