    A copy of my rebuttal....
I was at 52 hours barely over a week out my trainer had me do a back between 3 trailers one in front of me and the two that I had to go between there was maybe 30 to 40 but I think less feet between the opposing trailers. I knew I shouldn't do the back I had no clue as to how to do it! but my mentor (who I thought was my boss otherwise I wouldn't have done it) told me to do it anyways and that he would tell me how. He went to the back of the truck and guided me right into the trailer across the lot and bent his door. This is not my fault! I needed more time learning how to do this. Like in my 3rd week of training not my first. With a skilled mentor (by his own admission) had only driven a year himself what was I his 3rd student!! He barely knew how to do it himself. It took him trying it once - where he started me at - then he moved way out in the lot and backed it in the 3rd! time. Please tell me how I was suppose to do it THE STUDENT it was my TRAINER (MENTORS) FAULT!![IMG]

Hi theewukid. When u back don't just take your trainers hand signals.Always get out and look no matter what.I've had ppl guide me in but before entering the spot I got out and looked.Sometimes I did the right thing because the guider didn't see the other side and had I didn't look I would have hit something..Your mentor is not your boss if you feel unsafe or unconfident backing or driving, don't do it and report him to Swift.Your mentor should have got by the trailer not the trk.Next time do the GOAL thing and make sure you can see your trainer in your mirror and make sure hes away from the trk and trailer and make sure hes standing close to the spot you're backing into.

Swift was horrible....my "mentor" was probably 350lbs, only had 4 teeth and I had to force him to take showers. The entire time I was on his truck (and he made sure I knew it was his truck and his rules) he never once was behind the wheel when we picked up or dropped off a load. Even if he had 5 hours left when we got there. He would pull it in and go on break until it was my turn to drive. At first I didn't mind because I had to learn but towards the end it was basically slave labor. I even overheard him telling another driver that he used students for that purpose.

Every starter company has bad trainers and the companies know this.It seems they don't care who trains.

Pattyj is right always always get out and look no matter what. Your worried over nothing, these deadbeat companies prime, swift, jb hunt, Schneider, cr england, the list goes on but hopefully you get the point, will hire anyone who has two hands to hold the wheel and can pass a dot physical. Pretty sad but that's the wonderful world of trucking. So you can get another driving job, they hire people who have criminal background drugs and abuse
