CRST Recruiters will tell you anything and everything to get you into their school (NADTA)...

    1. The accommodations are HORRIBLE! If you stay at CRST's "Training Center" you will be three (3) to a room...three (3) bed's only and nothing else in the room!! No TV, no cabinets or closets, restrooms/showers are down the hall and are "communal"...it's like being in prison! The beds are warped and old and some of the rooms even have BEDBUGS! Random room checks take place all the time and no food is allowed in the rooms. Theft is everywhere, so if you bring anything of value don't leave it laying around...If CRST puts you in The Red Roof Inn your not much better off...the only advantage is you have a restroom and TV in your room but BEDBUGS are rampant there!!!

    2. You will only be feed twice a day during the WEEKDAYS! On the weekends your on your own...bet they didn't tell you that! Cereal and/or fruit is all your given for breakfast and if you don't eat by 5:00am...IT'S GONE! Lunch is not much better depending on where you are...if your at NADTA it's usually hot dogs, hamburgers, brats, chicken patties or NASTY pizza and sometimes other stuff...but your so hungry all the time you'll eat anything to stop the growling in your stomach! A lot of the student's survive off of "RAMEN NOODLES"...

    3. The training you'll receive at NADTA is sub-standard at best. You WON'Tget enough driving or backing time, you'll spend TO MUCH time in the classroom watching old boring video's & taking various test's. Some of the instructors are real jerks and it seems like most of them hate their job! A lot of the trucks seem to be falling apart too...

This is only the tip of the iceberg regarding CRST's NADTA School. There is SO MUCH more I'd like to put down here but I don't want to turn this into book! Be informed, ask questions, DON'T assume anything...and if you can, GET IT IN WRITTING! There are better school's out there, all you have to do is find them!

    TST65 Thanks this.

Sounds like someone didn't do the research prior to hooking up with CRST beforehand. Next time, do the research before hand. You can search any company in the search tab at the top of the page. Good luck to you and I hope things getter better.

Three to a room and the shower/bathroom was down the hall? My god, how did you survive?

I guess you're lucky you didn't join the military, I'd hate to see that whine fest...

People in this country complain too much (yes I am and always have been an American). I just got my CDL from NADTA and firstly the accomodations are not horrible. You have to rough it, its not the Hilton, quit being a baby. Try and come with about 300 cash and spend it WISELY. You can get two meals a day, one on the weekends and they give you 40 dollar cards every week. No matter how you look at it, it is 6500 whether you pay for it up front, or work it off at CRST at a lower wage. There are horror stories here and there are good reports. I think a lot of it has to do with your attitude and willingness. I heard of one driver turning in his lease truck because it was always breaking down and he wasn't making money, I hear of another driver who already paid off his first truck and is going to buy another.

At NADTA people get upset because they feel they do not get enough time to practice in the trucks. I can see why since you rotate instructors and each teach a little bit different. I do think that all the instructors should have a standardized teaching method. But you need to find what works for you and apply it. I failed twice at my backing test and they never gave me any grief. The more you fail, the more they let you practice. If you fail too much you will get sent home without a CDL and I am not sure if you still need to pay the 6500. It can be extremely discouraging when you fail while the DOT is inspecting you, it is nerve racking.

Still, being able to get behind the wheel everyday is nice. If I would have had to test at the DMV without NADTA, I would have had to find a way to bring a truck there 3 days because I failed twice at backing and they do not let you test more than once a day. That itself might have been a bit spendy. I knew nobody with a big rig who would let me use theirs. I think some people let you rent them for this exact purpose. So I think the cheapest route is to study yourself, get your permit and rent a testing rig. Then again I can say that I went to trucking school which can't look bad on a resume.

Im a student here now, & it aint That bad to where its unbearable.
Yes. Its 2 meals a day breakfast n lunch. We prepare dinner on gas grills. But roommates & associates get together & help eachother out.
3 in a room aint bad as compared to 4 or more. I use to work a Corrections job. No. I dont feel like im n jail...or close to it for that matter. I come & go as i choose. We do watch a lota videos, but they to the point & factual.
Now as far as I can tell the staff are here and they are very supportive. But n contrast to paying back for room, board, & training, it'll be far more affordable as according to an expensive 2year plan. CRST plan is 10 months. CRST has done a Lot more to help me get my Class A compared to 3 others Ive tried.
    Its doable.
The students...we come with all kinds of OTHER stuff also...that should also b factored in.
Overall...its a growing co. Working out some kinks, but if your focus is on learning & not a girl friend/boyfriend & or not on drugs, come with a professional attitude, & dress...u can make it thru.
    I will.
