Hello all.
I am starting this thread to inform any potential drivers (new or experienced) that Conway Truckload (along with nearly all the large, mega trucking companies) pays its' drivers far less than minimum wage. And the drivers are working upwards of 100 hours per week for this substandard pay.
So, getting right to the point, here are copies of my gross paycheck amounts for CWTL from early May to December 31st (my first fiscal year).
Week:
1. $714.82
2. $724.61
3. $ 485.23
4. $698.81
5. $440.20
6. $570.37
7. $987.56
8. $557.62
9. $77.45
10. $661.24
11. $624.18
12. $745.94
13. $649.73
14. $639.77
15. $437.00
16. $743.98
17. $606.14
18. $791.32
19. $319.91
20. $398.60
21. $1164.90
22. $350.27
23. $770.56
24. $682.31
25. $507.43
26. $457.95
27. $807.41
28. $121.18
29. $186.72
30. $667.89
31. $617.19
32. $535.62
33. $799.73
34. $879.30
Total, = $20,422.97 for 34 weeks. Or, ABOUT $32,000 per year.
And, BTW, I stayed for a full year; never got any better.
And I rarely went home and busted my hindquarters for this pay; remember: CWTL has a no load refusal policy.
And these figures are typical for what most drivers are actually earning (new or not so new, regardless of whomever tells you otherwise; including your trucking "school").
Now you know why that well over 98% of company drivers leave on their own accord within a year.
No wonder these companies are ALWAYS hiring.

Dang Joe!! Sorry to hear you had to go through that.
Hope you find greener pastures! That kinda pay,you could
sleep at home every night.
Did they not even try to get you better loads?Thats definitely
not worth staying out for!Good luck man -
I've long since "moved on" and yes, I've found greener pastures.
Just trying to help others find theirs by avoiding the "Mega Trucking" dead end detours.
And you're right; may as well work for Wal Mart or Jiffy Lube; pays better and you're home every night. -
Shouldn't that be like 500 bucks like the rest of them. Lol.....
really though, what you posted is an embarrassment to all of us.
There paying just enough to keep the driver from getting food stamps.reefer75 Thanks this. -
I recently left Con-Way Truckload, but here are the numbers from my 70-71 weeks there:

Weekly Averages: $1,039.01 2330 miles
That translates into an average of 44.6 cpm despite a base rate of 37-38cpm. The difference comes from ancillaries, bonuses, & vacation pay (the later was paid 2 weeks after my last day). And I never worked close to 100 hours/week. In fact, I had to scratch & claw to get more than 60 hours worth of work...
Note: At the end of week 57 (announced during week 58 ), Con-Way Inc ousted Truckload president Saul Gonzalez (who had been with CFI/Con-Way Truckload for 22 years).Last edited: Jun 13, 2014

OtheBreaker break .....
Hey guys ,i think Conway has two divisions ....truck load and LTL ...I'm not sure about this ,does know anything about the LTL side ....i have alot of respect for OTR drivers ,ran Budweiser beer on the east coast in my rookie days ,had my fun across this fine land ,it cost me a marriage (young marriage) no gps e,quipment ,radars or cameras staring at cha while you're clicking miles and singing with bob seger ......just a road atlas and phone # (pay phone at truck stop get next load) ......decided driving local by the hr was a better job ,having more of my life ,this was more my cup of tea ...rookie drivers should not get into ANY lease DEALS ...until you drive OTR aleast a yrs with of home work ,research laws and such ,have access 10k $....always available plus ....remember it gets slick and slimey ...im sad to say this but it's true im not proud of the way we do business ...i work with OPs guys ,im a company driver ,we pull Chrysler frght in motor city ...let me tell ya this and (back out) ....with a echo ,beep,
....AUTO IS CHESSY DOWN GRADED ...these guys do have alot more money passing thru their hands ,watched a few friends do it ....thinking about quiting auto frght how low can you go ? kind of frght ....these LTL companies are good for a few good reasons (transferring family south mts area MY HOME).....Conway LTL but i don't know much about them
....i think there's deference ....thanx for reading this vent ......CONWAY LTL anyone know?gldtigerwolf Thanks this. -
In fact, you did much better than anyone that I personally met. And I met quite a few.
Probably the reason that we all left.
A bit of an epiphany here but, you didn't last too long there either.
As in, a little over a year.
I know I know; some drivers leave cause' they're gonna make some real dough as as a L/O or even an O/O!
Oh well, there are some company drivers (as in a very few) that seem to fare better than others, at least from what I've heard. I was always disappointed, however, as I was never able to actually see one in person.
I suppose an internet encounter is better than nada.
Oh well, one person that I did at least talk to in person was El Presidente, Saul Gonzalez. He was there during my duration as one of his subjects.
I wasn't impressed.
Maybe his departure will be an improvement?
Couldn't get much worse.Last edited: Jun 13, 2014

Your rate is 38c per mile! We get that per km at a minimum and no ones pays that as no one will work for that. Most drivers here are 45 even up to 48c per km. that's running express Brisbane to Sydney or Sydney Melbourne. 3 trips a week = about 5700km and around $2500 gross.
