This is a small hole in the wall trucking company working on a shoestring. If there isn't money on the fuel card and ez pass is always running low I can only imagine the condition of the trucks for the company guys. I own my truck so don't have that headache. The company trucks always looked ok from the outside, never saw inside.

It all worked out. They finally got around to paying me. I had all the paperwork and was ready to go with the attorney sitting in the wings. They dodged a bullet.
I really don't mind if they were unable to pay me because of some unforeseen difficulty. It happens to the best of us. My business isn't exactly overflowing with cash right now, always some bottleneck somewhere or an expense with fees, service work or some personal emergency. No, that isn't the problem. The problem is the LYING.
So to any company owners reading this right now. Don't lie to drivers just tell the truth and don't think you can bamboozle drivers. You will be surprised how understanding most guys can be.
Don't say you'll pay up on Tuesday when you have zero intention of doing that. That is called lying and causes threads like this one to be written.
Thanks to all who read this, hope it helped someone else a little.

    mjd4277 and Ukumfe Thank this.

T.Brown-I know I'm late in responding to your situation, but I drove for Dennis and experienced my check being short as well. That said... he's is a good guy.
Look, this is the trucking industry and when brokers don't pay when they're suppose to it can throw small-family run carriers for a loop.
When told my check was being held due to missing paper work, I hit the freaking ceiling! I was pissed!
The next day, calmly I spoke to Dennis and he explained the broker problem. I continued to drive for him and two weeks later I got all of my money.
He's a strait shooter, but it's the trucking business. Most small carriers are vulnerable when brokers don't pay.

I have never been an O/O, so I'm looking at this in a strictly business sense.
If I make widgets and sell them to a distributor. They in turn sell them to Ace Hardware. When payment is due from the distributor, payment is due. It is not my concern how long it takes Ace to pay them. I need the cash flow to make more widgets.
Why would an Owner Op have to wait because trucking is different?
    Help me understand.

Please read post #11 again - carefully this time!
Yes Dennis is a nice guy. I also know that I got the runaround while I worked there. Try asking what the current fuel surcharge is for example. Ask Dennis. He will refer you to his manager, John. John might refer you to Dennis's son DJ. DJ will point at his dad. It is like the strawman in the wizard of oz!! Then there is the old wait until you are backed into a dock and THEN finding out you are expected to unload - for nothing!

Sometimes in a small trucking company if they get wind that a driver is going to leave they will bounce a check. Usually for thousands. It doesn't mean necessarily that they are NOT going to pay you. It is a ploy to improve cash flow naturally at the drivers expense. The cost of a bounced check is a pittance to the ability to spin out $10,000 over 2 months! As soon as my authority was square and I needed to hit the road the money stopped. All the time I would go into the office and make nice I would get a couple of grand. I was promised payment of the remainder many times. I still have the #### text messages all this time later.
Dennis is a nice enough guy as is his son and manager John. A little stroppy now and again but not bad.
However Lies??? Totally uncalled for and completely fouled the water. Hence the thread. As I said before read post 11 again. Whether there was really a broker backfire I will never know and you know what at this point I don't care very much.
Thanks for your input you seem like a nice guy who is a bit turned around by my angry thread. No major league bitterness here but I won't tolerate stupid lying. It is silly and unprofessional.

    Again! Nicely grasped!!

It always amuses me that we as truckers running our own small businesses are supposed to in some way feel differently to the facts of business life because "it is trucking" like that makes a difference. Business is business.
If a business is underfinanced in this case the trucker suffers. They always do. I have shut my authority down as it just wasn't worth the headaches but I am still a OO. I always made sure that I could finance myself. If the truck breaks down or there is / was an unexpected expense that is on me and the customer doesn't want to hear my problems. Can you do it or not. Ok I can do it and I follow through. It is then an OBLIGATION of the customer to pay up! I think you get what I mean it is kind of obvious.
