Great post. The big companies have done an awesome job at one thing.... Fooling people into thinking you need to go with their forced march to break into trucking.

Unfortunately their are way to many people on this website that agree with that way of thinking.

You do not have to follow that path to get your cdl or to get a job trucking.

I don't like the whole L/P idea either, and would never get into one. But some of you need to rethink your arguements against them. ALL companies try to improve their bottom line. And ALL companies expect the driver to make the trucks payment. That's business. Putting the drivers credit and reputation on the hook for it isn't right, but you can't look down your nose at a company because they want to make a profit. That's what they are there for.

I "married" myself to Prime. I chose Prime because it's a local company for me. My home is near Springfield, MO. I didn't have $2000.00 readily at my disposal and I refuse to take a loan from the employment office to go to one of the hole-in-the-wall driving schools in the Springfield areas.
i went through training, passed the tests and now two years later I'm still with prime because unlike other companies like Swift, (I've heard stories about them) Prime keeps me happy.

I worked for celadon for about two months, no real complaints other than getting to the house. There's good people there, advise? Dress well, smell good, and be a professional. Got me on the tobacco stuff with dispatch in NC instead of Indy.
I did dispise going to Indy though, seen and heard more people whining and complaining rather than doing.

Who said anything about a loan? The ones the mega carriers offer would be something more similar to what [crooks] would come up with.

I didn't have $2,000 either, or barely 1 dime to throw at tuition. Like most people I came into trucking...no RUSHED into trucking broke, busted and overdrawn, I don't think this forum existed yet, and not many others like it.

You are honestly going to get a better rate using a government student loan repayment program than you will going directly through any bank or fly by night hole in the wall school.

I actually spent time going to truckstops and talking to drivers. Something more people should be doing in combination with reading forums like this one. I did research but not enough, Although in the end I lucked out.

There are good and bad driving schools, just like companies.

I have heard Prime is not horrible if you are willing to put up with their BS. And I will concur that some company drivers I talk to are very happy there and making good money. Going 60 MPH all day...personally I would rather pull me teeth out through my eye sockets, but that's just me.

The company that I was working for sold their transportation division to Celadon. I promptly loaded all of my gear up in a rental car and went back home. I used to drive one of the Red Coronado's that are in the Indy Yard. I've been driving for over 22 years and now I'm looking for another job. There wasn't any way I was going to work for Celadon.
