Horrible company. My husband is on his first solo run. They bused him from Austin, TX to Perkins, OK last Tuesday, He had orientation Wednesday through Friday and they put him in a truck Friday night. His first stop in Ponca City, OK took over 7 hours to get loaded. Then he headed to Arizona, 4 stops and sat for over 24 hours for his next load. He then went to Las Vegas, NV arrived yesterday (Monday) at 6pm and is still is still sitting and waiting for load (20 hours). Dispatch wants him to go west to Northern California but he will run out of hours and get his restart in California. He has refused, wants to come back east and they say no load until tomorrow (Wednesday). He has been out for 5 days and has gone 1400 miles! This is ridiculous. Also, they don't pay .38-.42 cents/mile as advertised. They pay .34 - all drivers (they say). Something about they get the advertised rate off 'average miles'. Also, they say they pay $9-$10 an hour for three days of orientation--not true. A week later my husband is told they do not pay for orientation. These people sell a story of "family-owned, we care about the driver" but they are liars and manipulators and you make no money. My husband is an experience driver and I am a former trucking company owner. I know the games these small companies play. Disgusting.

This is an assumption on my part, but what might be going on here is these shippers probably keep telling him things like they'll have him done "shortly". It's a little hard to go into shutdown mode when you have constantly have the expectation that you may be ready to go soon.TruckWifeJen Thanks this. -
He needs to go off duty when he's getting loaded or unloaded.
-
He does go off duty. He knows how to log. He'll run out before he gets back to OK from CA.
Well it's now been 8 days since hire. Looks like he's got a few stops in norther cali (produce) then heading back to OK. He won't make it (not enough hours) so he'll do his reset a few miles out of last delivery in OK. So estimating he'll be back to Rains main hub in Perkins, OK by maybe Monday? So, to sum up working for Rains and Sons:
-no orientation pay (3 days) even though their recruiter will tell you $10 an hour. The do pay for lunch and hotel in Perkins, OK and get you there by bus
- pay is .34 per mile, not .36-.42 as advertised
- lots of stops
- after last drop you sit for 6-24 hours waiting for a call from dispatch to where you're headed next
- You can only get fuel at Loves
- After 10 days OTR my husband turned in just under 3000 miles
I know what your'e thinking, "the driver must be inexperienced" or "he doesn't know how to log" or "he must have done something wrong", "he's disgruntled." All not true. He went into this job very enthusiastic. He said everyone in the office made him feel at home and welcome. But then he got on the road. They lied about orientation pay, the lied about the pay rate and they gave him crappy loads so he got very few miles. This is disheartening. We just moved to Austin from LA where he drove for a FEDEX contractor for 6 years. He thought Rains and Sons would be a good move. Relocating drains your finances and he has no check this week. And who knows if they'll hold any of his pay for the runs he did do. The stress this company has caused on me and my husband is sickening. I don't know how these people sleep at nightNitemare13 Thanks this.
