I was in same situation opus my cousin who I was very close to passed. I was on hometime. I came back to the truck expecting to drive Monday morning. DM knew something was up because I was being a bit short. Told him bout my cousin. He offered to let me stay home till after funeral. I told him no. I missed the funeral 25 days later I lost two more cousins with in 24 hours. Didn't know these two as well. Offered to route me thru home for their services but couldn't afford to go home. Stayed out again. The 1st one family understood because his dad just retired from trucking. The others did too. All 3 were on same side of family, but couldn't go home. Like you said, wife parents sister or immediate inlaws and grandparents im there other than that unless already on hometime don't think I will be. Paying bills, while I get it, my mom does it for my grandma, is impossible out here unless over phone or direct deposit. While I feel for the op, I have to side with company on this. Should have followed up with them first.

Like an Oreo cookie, you can be sandwiched in between, you can be darned if you do or darned if you don't. It is a lose-lose situation that you must make a decision on.

i pay all my bills and trade stocks online. got to turn off wifi for security
if a man has a year experience and cant afford to go home that job aint working out.
we have drivers with damage and accidents coming and going to and from different jobs all the time and we go home daily and actually have low turnover with lots of 10 year drivers

I know you do. After my two years I was going to look at them for a daily run out of WalMart in Ohio.

Try spending christmas in a truck.......alone, and if you think THIS sucks? Wait until you ask....REPEATEDLY to go home for home time and you instead get re routed farther from home. Then try not to scream your elfin head at dispatchers who are all college graduates that act like their the up and rising CEO of the company who don't give a flying turdcrap about you.

Otr sucks the living life out of you, if you think this sucks just wait it gets worse

In order not to have to deal with the drama that comes with a company and their needs as far as filling a truck seat and keeping the logistics chain complete, moving who knows what...baby formula? Human organs? Pop Tarts? I demured, and took my experience to my mother's house to care for her. She's almost 80 and needs someone to help the last days of her life be comfortable, tasty and clean. Consequently, my former seat is open to whomever will fill, it who either has no feelings for, responsibility to, or surviving family at all. I prefer to shun any and all so called employment opportunities that haven't the ability to structure their business model to accommodate living breathing people and their FAMILIES. What is important to me may not be important to you, and although I LOVED my time on the road to a point of ignoring all else, I made my decision based on loyalty that transcends a paycheck to the one who gave me life.

Dollars to donuts, if any of the trucking company administrative or warehouse staff needed to take additional time off to care for an elderly parent, they would, HOPEFULLY, be granted that time off.

RESPECTFULLY speaking, once a parent, or both parents, pass away, that is it, they do NOT ever come back.
