I'm a new driver straight from GDA. I was out on the road 3wks with these clowns July 5-26. After getting back on that Sat I informed them I could not be back on the following Monday due to FAMILY business. While out on the road training I told them this ahead of time. Instead of theses ######## telling me that I would be fired immediately they did NOT reply...smh. Needless to say when I showed up on Wednesday thinking everything was ok they informed me I was terminated. If you have an elderly parent OR any family matters that won't allow you to RUN 2-6 months straight for US Xpress....DON'T WASTE your time! THEIR company policy is unreasonable, but I guess you can be like that when people need jobs....:biggrin_25513:

OK. So, what else happened? And did you turn in the truck? that's is standard procedure if youre going to take extended time off just about everywhere.

Seems to be the way of all the big companies these days. Your just a number with a bunch more in line waiting to take your place.

And they "wonder" why they have such a big turn-over. Truthfully, I probably would prefer being homeless than work for a bunch of heartless people.

This is absolutely true, however a lot of people have misconceptions about how training works. You are going to be away from home for an extended amount of time regardless of who you train with unless you get very lucky. The trainer's home time is a priority for the company because its the trainers that get these guys through the system. The student cant expect to be catered to during the training period. The OP said they were out 3 weeks, and 3-4 weeks seems to be pretty standard. As far as the extended home time goes, Ive had many go home for a week after upgrading and it not be an issue. As far as staying out 2-6 months, that's an obvious exaggeration. There is something else here were not getting. If your dispatcher says they need to talk to you or you will be terminated most normal people will make that phone call, right? Could have been something as simple as a random. USX has plenty of issues to be sure but this don't sound quite right.

If one of my employees "informed me that they would not be back" on the day they are to be back at work without my approval, you can guarantee they wouldn't be coming in on Wednesday! When you work for someone they depend on you to be there. You don't "inform" anybody unless you are signing the checks. You request. Sometimes you get it off, sometimes you don't. The word family doesn't trump your responsibility. We all have a family. If it is a true medical emergency then nothing will stop me from getting home. If they fire me and someone else Gets my seat, oh well. I can understand. People do needs jobs. Companies also need WORKERS.

You took it upon yourself to stay home until Wednesday. You told them but you did not get a response and didn't follow up. It sure is a headache sometimes but you didn't CYA so nobody to blame but you

Wild Murphy said it perfectly. ^ The problem is a lot of drivers "Family business" is nothing more than Uncle Freds birthday party bash. And dispatch knows it.

At the heart of the matter is the fact that you did not receive a response. Family business is not the same as FAMILY EMERGENCY. It didn't seem strange to you that you did not receive a reply of any type? Uh, no response is not the same as "ok, see ya when ya get back".
