Hard to say. Most of the time if the company collects it they will find a way to forget to give it to you.

I actually did well at Tyson until they implemented e-logs,I ran on the port fleet, we ran hard and when elogs came in it cut us rom 5 turns a week to 3 that hurts,I run elogs now pulling a van and it doesn't effect me that bad, because the wait times are less at shippers and recievers, and I can actually get unloaded and reloaded in the same day.

How sad. No wonder there is so much turnover in the OTR industry. Who would ever work for free?

Been w Tyson 8+ years. I've never heard of them offering detention pay which differs from layover pay - which they do pay - $85 when you run < 200 mi in 24 hours - and I NEVER have a problem collecting it. Seems some get hung up on minute details and obsess over any negative they can find. Let's maintain perspective. Big picture - here's my experience... $60k (least was $59,150) per year every year @ current base pay $0.41 cpm. That's w/ being out 17 then home 4. I get home every 3rd Friday, has been couple years since I was even one day late going home. Then out Tuesday. Holidays: $115 x 8 per year. Insurance: cheap. 70 mph governed. Mgmt that completely ignores you so long as you do your job. And about 96% of time running my ##### off when break is over which at least as I see it is what I'm here for. That's how we earn, right? Have NEVER been treated disrespectfully by anyone in mgmt/dispatch. If you are consistent and reliable, do yer job w/o bit**ing every five minutes then they will take excellent care of you. It's hard work and I guess it's not for everyone.

I think if Tyson doesn't pay detention pay they should at least give there drivers some fresh chicken to eat.

With a little smarts and creativity you can usually take your breaks while waiting for loads. Go bobtail wherever and close the curtains. Not really sure why so many comments about waiting. I don't see waiting as a big issue w Tyson. Occasionally, sure. You communicate, you make your plans based on load times. It's not that hard. They're gonna throw the work at ya, almost always in advance (90%+ of the time I know my next load before emptying), then you just figure the best way to do it. The biggest problem I have w Tyson is finding enough time to sleep because we are so busy. That's a problem I don't mind having w a trucking company. I'll find a way to get my sleep and be on time. And if you run out of yer 70 you get a little extra rest that day and take yer $85. If you're not getting miles w Tyson then you're doing something wrong ... even w e-logs. What matters most is the end result. How much $ at year end? That's what I'm most concerned about. Throw in the other stuff they're doing right and that's just a bonus.

A company only has so much $ budgeted for drivers. Whether you receive it in the form of cpm, bonuses, detention or whatever. If they paid detention they'd take it from something else ... like taking a bucket of water from one end of the pool and dumping it in the other end. I'll bet (I don't know but I suspect) some of the big, crap beginner companies hv shiny, state of the art facilities and some are prbly really impressed w that. Well, that's less $ for you, the driver. I would caution anyone from going too far into the weeds w analysis of any prospective company. You're gonna find things to like and dislike about ANY company. Talk to their drivers. Get the big picture. Annual income, hometime, benefits, consistency, treated well, equipment. Unlike a lot of companies you look at on the net, Tyson actually displays compensation pkg and guess what? What you see is what you get. There's not a lot of gimmickry here. We're all smart enough to know some people are simply gonna be pissy and miserable wherever they go.
