He might want to wear a bullet proof vest if he goes to fedex because of the mass shootings every couple of years...not to mention they are having a union battle right now currently. Better to wait till that is over and they have a union contract.

Being honest I can't understand why any of you would agree to work there if that is the case.

I've been with them 3 years last August. Never had a bit of trouble with them.

Yeah, I make 42.5 cents a mile and I only have a little over a year experience in all. Of course im a tanker yanker. Believe it or not I work for a big company (Schneider National) and im actually very happy with the way they treat me and the benefits are great! Still have yet to pay for a prescription...and we get detention after 2 hours. Its only $10 dollars. But hey, its somethin and it adds up if you've been sittin for quite a few hours, which isnt the norm cause youre usually done with an unload in a few hours. Out of everyone that was wanting to hire me they were offering me the most. Came on to them with 10 months experience. Started out @ 39 cents a mile. Been here 9 months now and will be making 43.5 @ my year mark. Granted our trucks are governed @ 63mph (although I know some that go 64...and some solos managed somehow to get team trucks and are governed @65mph) I know some will look at Schneider and think "ohhhhh sh--!!" Trust me, I felt the same way before I got on with them, but could never manage to find anyone saying anything bad about them...so I gave them a shot...and glad I did. Just my 2 cents for whats its worth. Thx. Guys. Stay safe

Decided to chime in since I've found a lot of false claims in this thread.

They tell you day 1 that there is no detention pay. There's only been two occasions where it took 5+ hours to get unloaded. In it's place is the "200 miles or less in a 24 hour period" and you get 85.00. Technically, you could make 185.00 on a layover day. I've never sat at a plant for 24 hours waiting for a load. There are occasions where I have a 1200 mile load that I picked up on Friday morning, and can't drop until Monday and end up sitting for a day and collect the 85.00. Trust me, they do everything in their power to prevent from having to pay you that 85.00, even if it means dead heading you 250+ miles to pick up a load. A lot of it also has to do with how well you manage your logs. If you don't know how to get the most of your hours, you might end up sitting. When you haul for Tyson, a lot of the freight goes from plant to plant which is all drop'n'hook.. I've been getting all the miles I want and am happy.

If something is wrong with your truck, it gets fixed. Flat tire, sit where you're at and someone will come to you. I recently saw them send someone out to change out a headlight for a driver. APU's in every truck and you can still idle. If you do your job, avoid tickets and accidents you'll be left alone. Cheap benefits, paid holidays, and a bonuses. You get a day off for every 6 you're out, whereas it's seven at most other OTR companies. They want you to stay out 12 days before going home, whereas it's three weeks at a lot of OTR companies. Your home time also doesn't start on the day you get home, unlike other companies. At my last company is was like it was dispatchers vs drivers. At Tyson, it's the complete opposite. It's much more of a team effort. You also get 20 miles PC miles to use for personal stuff per 24 hour period. Ex-pass and pre-pass so that's a plus. No reason you shouldn't make 55+ per year, plus top shelf benefits.

Not saying Tyson is perfect, but something is wrong if you think the negatives outweigh the positives. I've been impressed with how honest they've been since I first called trying to get on with them. Miles are what they said, pay is what they said, home time is what they said, benefits is what they said. I think the OP will realize that the grass isn't always greener.
