You're right. It won't make a difference to most but not all. In my 8 years I've managed to stay far away from junk company's. But then again I have a knack for smelling bull ####. Sites like this one hold a lot more weight than what any recruiter says.

JB HUNT is one of the more aggressive companies with aggressive recruiters.Been in a similar situation with another company.Worked 14 hrs aday back at my trk right when my brk was over.Got paid by the mile no pay for deadhead miles which was around 150 dh miles aday.No detention because the customer would get me in the dock just before the cut off time. Then sat most the time over 2 hrs waiting to get unloaded. There was a few times I went over my 14 and my dispatcher fixed it.Then I would have to be back before my 10 hr brk was over.Found out most the locals was getting paid hourly.Companies like this are making a huge killing off the local drivers.Whether JB or any company, recruiters are the last ppl you should believe. They don't know what you'll be making, they don't even have a clue what exactly you'll be doing and how much your job pays.Your husband needs to find something else because as long as hes employed there it will not get any better.I didn't last very long,I couldn't get past drivers making hourly and me getting paid by the mile with no dh mile pay.I did talk to my dispatcher and safety about this issue. Both understood and did lobby for hourly pay but the owner said no.

To answer your question no I don't have these types of problems and I'm employed by JB Hunt I work out of there intermodal terminal in Harrisburg PA. I got to ask how long your husband has been at JB Hunt because you state "he hasn't started insurance yet" that kicks in within 3 months I believe of being there. The next question is your husband DCS or is he Intermodal? As far as getting paid more in the Northern states goes I live in the northeast and the cost of living is higher here and that is why we are paid more...that goes for a ton of jobs with people doing the same exact job but getting paid differently due to the cost of living.

    1. Yes JB Hunt is activity based pay.

    2. They pay you hub miles (at least those of us in intermodal) or I would've quit by now or most likely not even have taken the job in the first place.

    3. Detention pay starts after an hour and a half (wish it was an hour but that is a different topic) in Harrisburg PA we get $17 for the first hour then it goes up to $25.50 every hour after that for detention.

    4. You can make over 70k a year at my terminal. Not as much as ltl but not bad either.

Well, this is why you don't work for companies that put all of their freight on rails. Making money there isn't easy.

It's all about what they can get away with ,not you or your husband or any other driver ....the bottom line is :
They have a warm body in their equipment making them all the $ ,so nothing else matters to them .....me personally
" i wouldn't even think about doing a pre trip inspection

Yeah okay...that is why we have OTR drivers on here praising getting paid a lousy 50k a year and never being home while I'll make around 60k this year and home every night and off two days a week. Let me know how it's going in that truck stop your parked in. I'm going to go back to watching some shows on my 60" smart tv kicked back on my sectional.
