    Folks, I've been with LandAir Transport since Oct 2001. Before that I worked for a private carrier (as opposed to a common carrier) that went out of business.

    I'm not going to say I haven't had some problems with LandAir, but for the most part, I find they are a fair and reliable company. Right now, and for about the last 6 months, miles have been off. From what I hear, not just for us but for other carriers as well.

    Pay -- They pay book miles (like most other common carriers).

    Vacation -- 1 week no matter how much time you have with the company.

    Bonuses -- Must get at least a specific number of dispatched miles every 6 months;
    -- Must have all logs turned in;
    -- Must have all bills turned in;
    -- Complete and turn in Safety Bonus paperwork (which spells out the
    criteria for the Safety Bonus in detail);
    -- Not be late for scheduled delivery, unless good reason and you notify
    them;
    -- No accidents;
    -- No tickets in either a CMV or private vehicle;
    -- No DOT Out of Service Violations.

    Am I a recruiter for them? Nope, just a driver who would like to set the record straight about this company.

    Like all companies out there, they have their problems. But at least I am not a number to dispatch nor higher ups. They know me by name!

    When my wife had a heart attack in May of 2008, I was on a run to Roanoke, VA. I called dispatch and notified them what happened. Told them I was going to drop the load at the customer, then bobtail home to be with my wife. They told me to just be safe enroute. Even asked if I'd be ok making the trip home. I could give other personal instances where they have proven themselves to me, but won't to keep from being long winded (which I already have).

    If I put reasons to stay and reasons to leave on a set of balance scales, the reasons to stay far outweigh the reasons to leave.

    Don't know what company you're referring to. LandAir Transport out of Greeneville TN doesn't have older trucks. Most are either 2006 or 2007 International 9400i. Yes they still have some 2005 Freightliner Columbia's. Majority of the fleet of trailers are less than 10 years old...probably more like 5 years or less. The rollerbeds are somewhat older.

    Service issues come about due to drivers failing to live up to their end of the bargain. Accepting a load, knowing there is no way they can legally make it. Accepting a load, then getting a hundred or so miles away then somehow running out of hours when they had enough to make the trip when they picked up the load.

    well i am just getting ready to start with them again and i have been with them in the past. they have always done right by me and i would defend them on any given day. i got a call from a freind of mine that my wife was cheating and when i went to landair with my problem they helped me get a rental car and gave me money for the gas to get me home. i was off for two weeks tring to sort threw the problems and they left me alone till i was ready to come back. then they gave me the money to come back down and pick up my truck. now how many companies would do that for their drivers.

    I have been working for Landair for a few months now and am sorry i didnt leave when i finished orientation and was told they would keep $250.00 of my pay if i
    quit before i was employed their for six months.My recruiter did not mention that.
    The trucks are ok,if you like it governed at 63 mph.Almost all the trailers i have
    pulled are in descent condition with good tires.Health insurance is $50.00 a week
    for smokers,$28.00 non-smoker.Sliding pay scale .30-.40 cent per mile.No holiday
    pay,1 week vacation pay after 1 year.Everbody i deal with in the company is very
    courteous and friendly.My big complaints are low miles average 2000 or less a week
    and they dont get you home when you request it.I think this company has a lot of
    potential but like almost every trucking company out their will take advantage of its
    drivers because they can replace them tomorrow.

    Baack Thanks this.

    Airbreeze or Dave27107:

    I just caught an ad for Landair in the NE (PA) do they run up here a lot?

    I'd like to apply, but if they want me to run OTR, I can't do it right now. And I wish ALL recruiters would stop promising regional work/hometime if it's not really an option.

    I just left another national carrier that promised me regional work and regular hometime. Only to drag me cross country and strand me on weekends.

    I can work the NE pretty well, and I don't mind going out for a day or three.

    TN Speedy,do america a favor and invest in spellcheck software. Otherwise,thanks for the info. I spoke to a Landair recruiter last week,and I gotta tell you,I could smell the BS thru the cellular airwaves. Especially the "sliding payscale" for mileage pay. No,sir. No thank you.

    you want to say its the wife complainin on here about land air no it true
    land air had my boy friend out for a week in PA and his dad had an heart attack and they told him they would send him home and the sent him down south (NC,GA,TN,KY,AND WV) for about a week and a half the when his dad got worst the sent his back PA. (We live in ohio outside cols) for another week. all on recap hours for the last 2 weeks

    AS FOR YOUR COMMENT :( Landair will be around, and the only drivers left will be the good ones. By good drivers, I mean drivers that actually work hard and have the courage not to let their wives post in a message board.)
    I AM A DRIVER AND I KNOW WHAT GOES ON WITH COMPANY THAT WHY I'M WORK FOR MY FAMILY TRUCKING COMPANY AND NOT SOME CHEATING PLACE THAT LIKE TO RIP THERE DRIVER OFF Drivers have a terrible job, its true.
    AND THIS COMMENT:But, its not the company's fault that the driver never got an education and cant do anything else. I HAVE A NURSING DEGREE BUT I CHOOSE TO GO TO WORK FOR MY FAMILY YOU ACT LIKE TRUCKERS ARE DUMB IF TRUCKER WERE STUPID THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PASS THE CDL TEST FOR ONE THAT THE BMV GIVE PLUS LOGG BOOKS PAPER WORK SO YOU MUST NOT BE A DRIVER OR YOU ARE DUMB TOO........
