I am aware that "Melton Truck Lines" has a right to be a safe company but at what cost? Melton's "back-up" beepers are waking drivers up in truck stops. We have the right to a good day or nights sleep. Drivers using back up beepers moving up and down trying to get into parking spaces are hindering our right to sleep. This makes us unsafe drivers do to a lack of sleep. I submit to Melton this information. When a Melton truck wakes up four drivers in the four spots next to the space, he is trying to occupy as much as 120 drivers per day per truck are upset with Melton. In an industry where good safe drivers are hard to find and getting much tougher to enlist this would to kill Melton recruiting efforts in five years. I have an excellent safety and on-time record and would never call Melton for a job after being woken up three times this month by their "back-up" beeper. I know other drivers feel the same as I do. 3. We all know that drivers take a lot of crap out here. Companies expect us to get things done and Elogs are making that very hard to do. Professional drivers go to great lengths to get good sleep. Displeasing a driver by "pounding on his door" or using a "back-up" beeper will upset an operator at the very least. If you're a Melton driver would want a driver waking you up when you have settled in for a much needed rest? No you would not. I could not imagine how bad you feel when you rear into a spot, and you know you woke at least two drivers up with your up and back positioning into a parking spot. I am sure that Melton drivers feel awful, and they know their company doesn't care about the safety of drivers who don't work for them. I can't help but wonder if I pulled up in front of Melton's safety directors house at three in the morning and started blowing my truck horn. How long would it take him to call the police? About five minutes I suspect. So why should I allow him to do the same thing to me? http://meltontrucklinesucks.com

I can't decide wether to agree whole-heartedly or disagree a little. But I would pay good money to have someone take you up on your offer to go the the safety director's house and stop on the street out front and blow the horn repeatedly for a minute and report back the results.

I can't believe this is an actual issue to make Melton a bad company.
Drac1985, browndawg and passingthru69 Thank this. -
How do you feel about reefers? Or someone with 7" straight pipes fast idling all night?
pattyj Thanks this. -
aladdin sane, Ryantruck and Drac1985 Thank this.

Oh! And to add, wish I knew what company you drive for, truck number, just so I could park next to you, you sound like a reasonable person (sarcasm)
joseph1135 and pattyj Thank this. -
Made me smile this morning thanks.

It is if you need sleep really bad and you wake up to a back up beeper and can't get back to sleep. It took ten years to get the ######, hookers, drug dealers and DVD salesmen knocking on our door out of the truck stops. Now we have a new problem, Melton.

The thing is, flatbed drivers are not the most efficient backers and to have to listen to this very annoying sound, repeatedly for 3 minutes (and to be woken up to realize you may well be hit in the next minute or two) can be more then annoying at midnight, just as you're getting into a deep sleep cycle.
I'm used to many/most noises but once woken up due to a particularly annoying piercing sound, I will usually have a difficult time getting back to anything that resembles quality sleep. But thanks for putting it out there that apparently "most" truck drivers are not bothered by loud noises in a truck stop. I'm sure some will take great joy in this news. Wait until this becomes mandatory that all new trucks have backup alarms (because you drivers don't seem to think they're a problem) and then report back to this thread and you can apologize for your short-sightedness.
Loud, piercing noises next to you? "these don't bother me, quit your whining". Reefer or APU or jake'ng in the parking lot running next to you? "you inconsiderate jerk, park at the back of the truck stop!" SMHpeterd Thanks this.
