    Hey...I'm over here!

Ok, I snipped a small piece of One Hit Wonder's post out and I simply have to say something about the long hours truckers work -the following is directed at him.

Yes, we all know truck drivers work 14+ hour days. Truck drivers are not the only ones who work long hours. Many, many people in salaried (a set amount per week) positions also work more than 40 hours weeks, often times 60, 70, 80, or more hours. Many of these people travel for a living, getting home only on week-ends. They are also not paid for all this time away from home, time in airports, etc. AND, often, they spent tens of thousands of dollars on college and other education for the privilege of doing so. And guess what? They may be only making $35,000/year. Of course, some are making six figures. Guess what? They figured out how to get their income to where they wanted it. You can do so in this industry as well. It's all about the choices you make, how you respond to things, and the attitude you bring with you.

So - the moral of the story is - if you want to sleep in your own bed every night, get a local job. If you are going OTR or regional, suck it up buttercup and deal with the lifestyle. At the end of the day, though, in what other industry can you spend less than $4,000 and a month of your time to get the qualifications to get a job that within a year can lead to $50,000+ in income? Or, simply by making a six to twelve month commitment to a company, get the qualifications FOR FREE - no money out of pocket????? If you want to make more money, learn how to run, learn how to deal with the circumstances that arise, or make different choices for who you work for. The information is on this forum, go seek it out.

Grab a mirror, caller, and look in it. Therein may lay the primary issue....

Ok, rant over - carry on Pumpkin Drivers, and thank you for allowing me to 'guess rant'.

Different strokes for different folks. And one things for certain, this OP doesn't belong on the road feeling the way he does. Go scrub shower stalls at the pilot if you think that's a better job.

Started with Schneider in July at the bottom of the barrel as 48 State OTR in Van Division. Orientation was in Fontana.

    1. I have no issues qualifying for the Bonus. The last one was a little short of $1000
    2. Out of Route only counts against you if you are more than 10% out of Route and even then it's a email or phone call from your boss. Never received a phone call and went Out of Route a whole 2100 mile assignment just to avoid SoCal Traffic. (Portland to Denton TX...had us going I-10 and I wanted I-40 to save time and money. Saved 3 hours that way).
    3. No one has spoken to me about "overspeed" and have been told they won't as long as it isn't excessive amount of time (more than 10% again)
    4. Haven't heard Jill's voce in months. No issues!
    5. Never hear from my Dispatcher (DBL) unless I need something. Do get inundated with emails about weather or bonus criteria or conference calls trying to better the company.
    6. Never had an issue getting Time at Home and spend 6 days a month at the house. (14/3)
    7. Average 23500 miles a month as a team and the pay was what was promised.
    8. My truck was relatively new but only because we were team. I have known other drivers that were with me at orientation that received old trucks. It is what it is when you start out.

If you are a dissatisfied driver for Schneider than so be it. If you wish to complain please make sure what you post is fact and current. I haven't found anything different from what my recruiter told me in July to what I found out once I started. You can make a good honest living in this industry but you have to start somewhere and that means older trucks and lower pay. Even if you only made $2400 a month with no bonuses (quarterly or sign on) that is still more than what you would make in most industries with the same level of training.

No big words here just my experiences in the short time I have been with the company. Only planned on doing a year but looking like I will just go from 14/3 with a team to something that will bring me home more often (7/2 solo).

It's a lifestyle. that's for sure. Good company to start a career with. Most great paying companies require at least one year and 100000 miles experience.

It's formatted that way because it's a cut and paste job. It's the first post for a new member to the forum, looks like a plant.

Well said. I'm currently a warehouse manager whose thinking about getting into trucking. I make $36,000 a year salary, but I work 14-15 hrs a day during peak time, which comes out to about $6-7.00 per hour. I'd love to drive a truck for the same money. At least it would be something I enjoyed.
