I got my CDL Class A license on Oct. 31, 2014, (Halloween), it's not even been a month and a half, I'm new to all this and fresh out of truck driving school, which was also a bad experience, but anyway, I found a job with these guys (E.L. Hollingsworth) they told me they would train me for 2 weeks, or longer if I needed it to feel safe, on the SECOND day of training, operation/dispatch was asking if I could start driving on my OWN!!! Thank God my trainer said "heck NO, he is in no way ready to go out by himself." I trained with the trainer for 3 weeks, NEVER learned how to back, the trainer was more concerned with getting as many miles as he could, and never had time to show me how to back up, he let me attempt it a couple times but, the dock was extremely busy, and other drivers were getting impatient with me! They missed paying me for 1 day of training, which I am still trying to work out with them through payroll to get paid.

I feel nervous and my hands are shaking at the end of a long drive, I can't even hit the right buttons on the Qualcom.

The Safety Department told me I have one more day to learn how to back or they will let me go, AND they are not going to pay me for it.

    IS THAT EVEN LEGAL?????

tell em your ready to go out on your own then jump in that truck and just pratice...theres really nothing to it,you dont need to be nervous.just dont hit nothing..There's really no way to learn without doing it...Just go do it !.Tip...when backing just go slow, dont even touch the throttle let the slow gear be your top speed until you learn how to keep it straight..remember turn the wheel to the right, trailer goes to
    left..and vis versa..And one
    more thing never ever worry
    about some other clown getting
    impatince at the docks...If they
show signs of fustration just go slower...F---em...

Like he said , take the truck and practice every chance you get ....remember turn out at a 45angel after 2nd set drives ,stretch it out on that 45 ,then jack&chase & follow it in ,when in doubt ,get out & look ,IM surprised they didn't have you in the yard practicing .....you better put on a thicker skin if you wanna to succeed in trucking ,don't wait for them take the keys from them and learn ,your nerves are gonna be shot at the end of the day for awhile ,we have all gone that ...
PS: when they are behind ,THEY ARE BEHIND YOU ( be nice & wave )

    Let them let you go.
You don't want to be forced into a truck by yourself at this point.
If you have some sort of accident, or even ding up a trailer, they can fire you and make finding the next job even harder.
Start calling around companies that will actually train you.
Letting them dump you at this point, with nothing bad on your record, is better than waiting for something worse to happen.

ALL there trucks are JUNK, they sent me out on my first day on my own, on a drive from St. Louis to Detroit, when I first seen the truck I almost threw up, but was assured by mechanics and dispatch that it was mechanically sound. Once I got to Detroit at 2am, I smelled fuel and turned off the truck, froze my butt off overnight, I was scared of carbon monoxide killing me during my time in the sleeper, another driver banged on my door at 8am and told me I had a bad fuel leak, from there I found out the power steering was leaking and it also had a coolant leak. The inside was junk too, no where to plug in a gps, or phone, the heater in the sleeper did not work, and the dash lights at night did not illuminate. They made me drive the truck for for the next 4 days, claiming they have no other trucks, i am so thinking about quiting already, the training sucks, I still cant back up right, it's been less than a month and a half since I graduated from Truck Driving School.

You've posted in three separate threads about your problems. You need to get off the computer and practice your backing. Soon.

I worked for them for around three months. Got into an argument with the terminal manager over shorted pay. Got sick and tired of the B.S. Quit cold turkey. Last paycheck had a deduction for damage they say I caused. The equipment is garbage. If you drive for them, make sure you report and damage found. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Two year old thread here, but, FWIW I drove for them for a short time in 2011. Equipment is beat up with most trucks having at least 1 million on the clock. Pay was low, but they do haul automotive, so there's the reason for that. Never had any payroll issues. Left to go back OTR with Celadon for better pay.
