Beware drivers this company is a sham. The owners want you to run illegally while trying to pay Google miles. When confronted about the pay descrepicy you get the standard "well that how we get paid". What company works just for the cost? They do not offer anything in the way of benefits and then want to 1099 you. You will be expected to falsefy your logs and when you resist they bring you home and then don't want to pay you.
    RUN don't walk.

I wish more drivers would realize what driving under a 1099 can actually involve. Much more than just the tax issue.

CARRIER CONCEPTS REPLY: First off, Carrier Concepts has a great safety rating and we abide by all DOT regulations. We adhere to standards and pay our drivers/1099 independent subcontractors timely. We've been in business for five years and still have many of the same independent contractors that have worked with us from the start. As far as Mr. Tolliver is concerned, if anyone should be aware of anything, it's that owner/operators need to be aware of Rodney Tolliver, the independent contractor/driver. Mr. Tolliver was driving for us for two weeks when he ran into a parking curb and drove a hole in the oil pan of our $50,000.00 2009 Volvo. Rather than speaking to us first to have our semi towed to a shop, he tried to remedy the hole he placed in the oil pan with a tampon, of all things, and then kept running the engine with no oil, despite the truck shutting itself off over 20 times, verified by the CPU readout. It wasn't until that point that he called us to give his version that something had happened to the semi, which was that someone hit him in the rear-end and pushed our parked semi, with brakes applied, into a curb. After we paid for a hotel for Mr. Tolliver and his "girl," gave them a cash advance, while an attempt at a repair in a local shop was performed, he then confessed that he indeed nosed into the parking curb himself. After we were told we had a seized engine and it needed to be overhauled, we informed Mr. Tolliver of the fact and told him that we no longer had a semi for him to drive due to his negligence. Mr. Tolliver and "his girl" left endless drunken, life-threatening messages that "You better watch your 6," biker gang threats and BBB threats. He continued to leave messages for several weeks thereafter also. The mechanic and insurance company investigated the incident and said it was the driver's fault and as a result there was no coverage granted to our loss. This man cost our business a complete loss of a $50,000.00 semi due to his complete disregard to our property, without a flinch of remorse or care. We found out later that within the two-week period of his time with us, prior to this occurrence, Mr. Tolliver nosed into a parking space and as he was backing out, ran over a car hauler's drive tire, breaking it completely off of its suspension and never reported it to us. This incident was reported to us not via Mr. Tolliver but through a call from our broker due to the company he hit calling them, tracing the incident back to Mr. Tolliver's careless driving. Needless to say, after working with us for only two weeks and causing so much damage, blowing our semi's engine, costing us well over $50,000, the unreported accident we found out about later, we would suggest other owner/operators review this post when considering Mr. Tolliver as an independent contractor/driver.

CARRIER CONCEPTS REPLY: Carrier Concepts has a great safety rating and we abide by all DOT regulations. We adhere to standards and pay our 1099 drivers/independent contractors timely. We've been in business for five years and still have many of the same independent contractors that have worked with us from the start. As far as this driver is concerned, she was told from the beginning she would be 1099ed, an independent contractor/driver, and, as such, 1099s are not entitled to "employee" benefits as they are not employees. We do give other incentives and they were given to her. Our company elected to pay for her HAZMAT endorsement, and I personally sat at the office with her while she obtained it due to her not having reliable transportation to get there. We gave her a chance when no one else was willing to. We've never authorized any of our drivers to do anything illegal. This driver received a speeding ticket in an 80 mph zone in Texas (yes, 80 mph zone) and didn't inform us of it until we were notified by a DOT report. After that, we put a limiter on the truck and she then said we "castrated" the truck. She then refused to work at night and refused to take any HAZMAT loads unless we paid her more per mile. She was well aware of the job description and the rate of pay from the beginning, no surprises, especially since we paid for her HAZMAT from the start. Her berating/childish behavior to colleagues/dispatchers/mechanics we deal with gave our company a bad name, in addition to our brokers absolutely refusing to work with her. As such, we had to request she complete her last run, return home and to turn in her keys. This turned out to be a nightmare as she separated the semi and the trailer from each other, hiding them in different parts of her home's city and again tried to extort more money from us than she had already been paid in order for the semi and trailer to be returned to us. We had even given her a paycheck earlier that day before she threw out additional threats and ultimatums. Our company had to have the broker activate the "Lojack" to find the trailer to find out where she hid it and we had to call the police to go to her home with us to get possession of the keys to our semi. She then sent messages saying "good luck finding your trailer" but we had already found it via LoJack. We deduced ourselves where she had hid our semi and were able to find that. After our relationship ended, she went back to our broker and requested a job directly through them. The broker found this amusing and told her they had no place for someone like her. In short, this woman is simply an unhappy, disrespectful, spiteful person who has absolutely no sense of how costly and difficult it is to be an owner/operator trying to run a logistics business. Owner/operators beware.
