Here is a company, you might want to take a closer look before jumping behind their wheel. Talk big safety, top wages, new trucks coming, well my experience has been
rude & crude. The week of Christmas 2014, I received an answer to my search for a class one driver job, promising local runs, home every night, top wages, safety with discipline, blah, blah, blah, to get you hired. I said this is too good to be true. But I answered the call. New branch for Butterworth in southern Alberta, Canada. Manager said I'm going to be on holidays 'till the 9th of Jan.,here is your truck, and our Vancouver dispatch phone number. Call them and they'll get you rolling, here's your keys to the shop, and a fuel card, and off he went. This was 2 days before Christmas, so next morning I called the dispatch, she asked if I would start with just a couple of p/u and delivery jobs, between the 25th and the 1st. I agreed to give up some family time to help out. Well I did a full day on the 27th, another full day on the 28th, and the 29th and oh well right up to 5 pm., on the 31st. Back at things early on the 2nd right through the next week. The company owner decides to shows up to help out. Right off the bat, he tried to intimidate me,and bark at my methods knowing full well I had received no training and also a rooky. To date though,... my jobs were all on time and professionally handled, but still not good enough...within 2 days of knowing me, I'm fired with a 2 hour wait and then a 10 minute lecture, but remember not one job late or damaged. On my way out the door, I asked him when I might expect my cheque, and his reply was barked out...bill me. Well it's almost February and with several attempts to collect, this money is still in the Butterworth account...we're talking less than a thousand bucks...No, I'm not saying don't go to work for them, just don't trust them, get everything in writing. I told them if I didn't receive payment by today I will tell my story on this site...at the end of the work day today I was told the cheque is cut but must have the owners signature, and that she will try to get things signed within tomorrows work day. Fact is, I learned the owner is in Alberta tonight. I'll keep you posted...

I too had the same experience the owner yells and screams at everyone. Staff walk around with fear
in there eyes. He screamed at me daily. Called me names and a stupid trucker a lot. He knows it all
and you know nothing. He has a major problem he's crude and very rude
so if you want to be treated like that then this is the place for you! Then turn over in this company
is through the roof. Run far far away from here and there poisonous work environment

.... Yeah that yelling & pumping fear into the employees is a form of manipulation, best reaction is to do the opposite...
... Don't say a word to him just look at him calmly and answer any questions with a straight face and walk away from the situation as soon as possible.... Act like it's water off a ducks back.... This will make him think about his actions longer than you would expect.... At the same time making the driver feel better about working for a nut case
.....then start looking for another job

Yes, super flow that's good advice and that's what I have been doing so far but a driver can handle only so much abuse from management. I have made some calls and have two interviews lined up. The owner of butterworth transport in Surrey bc sure has people skill problems. The only problem is when I walk away he gets even more angry and I just
calmly say when you want to have a polite conversation then I will talk to you if you want to yell and
bully me were done. Get this he goes into a 10 minute rant on how he is the boss and if you don't like it get out of here. So I did and dispatch is blowing up my phone oh well needed to mow the lawn anyways.

I just can't understand why any human being would accept abuse in any form, including the employment arena. Maybe that's why I am comfortable driving for a living - I just love the situation when I tell somebody "F#&$ you, pay me off." Love that.

Wheelguy, your situation is why we have a small claims court system. I figure there's something comparable in Canada. After all, we're all living under the British Common Law system of morals and ethics. File a claim, show up at court on time with all the documentation/records you have, and I'll predict - you'll be paid. Best

PS: You can even let them know your plan is happening soon, take the initiative, put some push on them. Even if it doesn't make any difference, you'll still enjoy yourself and feel better about your learning experience. You'll be surprised at how effective it is when you stand up and tell that bully to f#$% off and pay you. Now. Take your copies of your records with you, an exact accounting of hours/miles/expenses, everything.
