Wow, that was a long speech, and all just because he disagreed with Mack. I have never owned a GPS, although I drove my friends car that had one a few miles. It seemed nice. I think every driver should be able to deliver to any address in any city without a GPS, but, I sure wish I would have had one when I used to deliver furniture in NY, Boston, Philly, Chicago, and so on, but GPS wasn't even invented then. Progress and technology is wonderful, but always be able to do things yourself in case things go wrong. It's the same way with calculators. My son couldn't total up items and figure sales tax without a calculator, even though it is basic math. Embrace the new, but don't forget the old. Last edited by stranger; 09.16.2007 at 01.40 AM..

Contradictions........ OK I apologize to you, “MACK-E6” for going too far with that! Truly I’m sorry! But…………… another long speech……… Well, I must say I'm impressed by that rather long-winded speech. That was an impressive speech now wasn’t it? HaHa.. Only problem is, you're the one who's full of it. No, I am NOT one of those ignoramuses with the radio's you can hear on EVERY channel who has to belittle people in the manner you describe. I don't think too highly of them either. Well then what was the purpose of telling me that because I use a GPS I can’t read a map or compass? Sounds to me like you were trying to belittle me! You, Sir, don't know me from the man in the moon, so your thoughts in your last post are mere assumptions. I'm sure you know what they say about assuming, and you've certainly accomplished that. EXACTLY! Sir… You don’t know me and you assume I can’t read a map or compass because I use a…………GPS……. Now, on to more practical matters. Technology such as GPS is too unreliable for me to trust it. If you use it and like it, well I say enjoy. I’m going to say and I don’t mean it as an insult that maybe you don’t trust it because you haven’t used any enough! I’ve been using them for about 4 years and I’ve never had one go down on me or, actually I did have one shut down on me and I threw it out the window and made sure I ran it over! I had my drivers atlas with me. I always have some kind of back up even for my atlas. They don’t give good detail of streets and I can get all the detail I want with a GPS and you can get them for nearly nothing now. The problem is what do you do when for whatever reason the GPS ceases to function. I fear that rookies who have come to rely on this newfangled technology that you seem to love will be S.O.L. in such a situation, since what use did they have for navigating the old fashioned way? After all, they were never taught that. They'd look at a compass and say "What's this?" They'd look at a map and wonder which side is up because they were never taught the basics and the fundamentals. I seriously did run the thing over but after a month I really missed it and got another one. The one I ran over was a PDA and GPS so it had too much ####! One thing I really like about the one I have now it it can fit in the palm of my hand and has maps of all the US, Mexico & Canada. It seems that you’re “assuming” that I’m a rooky because I rely on the new fangled technology, “actually it’s been out for quite a few years” I can read a map. I know exactly what I can get out of a map. For me and people like me it’s just too easy! I can’t understand how a person can’t read a map but there are a lot out there who can’t. For me it’s too simple and I know what you’re saying about people who can’t seem to do something as simple as read a map but I also realize that there are a few things they can do that I probably think is pretty complicated. If you ever try one, “a GPS” and if you learn how to use it well you’ll not want to go many places without it! It just makes it too easy and I love the easy button! Just like when the young bull said to the old bull on the hill, "lets run down there and do one of those cows, the old bull said lets WALK down and do em all!" I know there are people who have been driving, well since Jesus was a little boy and they’re usually the ones who don’t like to change things like that. My point is you started out with an insult and you know you did! When you got what you got back from me, “which I admit was a little much” you act like you were attacked when you were the attacker! "GPS is for those who don't know how to read a map and a compass." That sir is an assumption, an insult and you should check what you've said! You'll find some contradictions on your behalf of some things you have said! I love technology! There’s nothing wrong with it and there’s nothing wrong with not liking it but I’ve also learned that if you don’t roll with the changes you will be rolled over sooner or later. You’re communicating to me on one of those new fangled technologies called a computer, do you own a cell phone? OK I’ll stop now!

Back on the topic at hand, I wish you the best of luck. I won't ask for a name of said recruiter, seeing as that also (in a way opposite already laid down, but still the same) would violate the post of A WARNING TO COMPANY MANAGEMENT.... To tell you all the truth, the more I read into these stories, and the more that I overhear from the cubicles at work, I'll stand up and say that 99% of these "Recruiters being an a-hole" stories are indeed true. Perhaps after they're done firing Dispatchers, perhaps we can give our own department an overhaul... 1. Poorly dressed people: You think the recruiter from JBHT is in a button-up shirt and tie and the ladies are in dresses? WRONG. at least 75% of the people on that floor are in Hole-torn shirts and those gaudy-### Pre-worn pants, or Midriff shirts, tanktops, etc. 2. Poor Attitude people: Most of these people are...well....Let's just say higher than the average per capita income of Northwest Arkansas and aren't afraid to rub it in at a moment's notice. Like the first comment "are you gonna believe what a bunch of people tell ya?" Probably one of the A-Holes that live in the McMansion housing developments and look down on others... Damn glad i'm not there, and will NEVER be. hell i live in an APARTMENT. on the BAD SIDE OF TOWN.

I will admit, there is a time when I will gladly reach for the GPS thing, but I'd have to be out in the ocean on a boat with no land in sight on a cloudy night, when a sextant would be useless and navigating by the stars would be impossible. Quote:

No Sir, you weren't really why I posted that. I had mostly terminal managers and dispatchers in mind with that one, because some of them like to hide on sites like this and wait for unsuspecting drivers to post their truck number or anything else that could identify them, and then said drivers are subject to disciplinary action for "speaking out against the company" or some other lame excuse. Well, that's not gonna happen while I'm the law around here, at least not to the same guy twice.

Well, that's not gonna happen while I'm the law around here, at least not to the same guy twice.[/quote] Well Mr. MACK E-6, I apologize again! For jumping to conclusions! Anyone of us can be wrong but not all of us have what it takes to admit it. I was fired up there for a minuet! I’m always the first to admit I’m wrong when I realize that I am and then react accordingly. I remember growing up watching a black & white TV with a channel knob you had to actually get up and manually turn, no AC, automatic transmissions in cars were optional etc. I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I remember my brother teaching me how to drive and old coal truck, an old Mack with two gear shifts. An old Dodge Charger that as he put it would out run the word of God in 2nd gear. That’s the way it was!.....And that’s the way we liked it! Today I build computers for friends, family and myself. It’s easier than most vehicles I’ve worked on! It's a lot cheaper and you still get the factory warrantees. I set up home security systems with video surveillance and home automation but you can still flip a switch the old fashioned way. I built a computer I use as a virtual multi-tracking studio. I use my laptop for all the regular computing crap… I’m a geek now in my older age! Not the kind with a pocket protector and thick black framed glasses with white tape around the nose piece though. I have to be because I’m really hard on my computers and I don't miss those days of black & white TV, no AC but I do miss the simpler times as far as a hand shake was better than a contract, a person could make a decent living and the staff of the company wasn't a bunch of sleaze bag bureaucrats trying to screw the working people. Now I’m getting into politics and I tend to piss a lot of people, (liberals) off when I talk about that. I have my cell phone for the same reason you do for the most part although I do use it quite a bit! I want get my moneys worth! My dad has been gone now for quite some time and my mother is 77 now. Kids use calculators in the class room today and I don’t agree with that! I also believe that a driving school should teach the students to read and use a map and compass because a driver needs to know how to use those main tools because yes they never go down. I think that knowing how to read a map is what gave me such a good sense of direction, (on land), you can have the water with no land in sight and that sextant thang too! I never really needed a compass (too many times) although I have a few I use mostly for setting up...... Satellite TV! HaHaHa.. I’m glad there are some of you out there watching for those company butt heads like that! That would be a pretty sleazy thing to do and I’m definitely not one of those! I’m fighting a company now for making me go over16 hrs per run driving alone and they’re screwing with me now too! My God! I’ve got too much time on my hands! I’ve gota quit now! We got off on the wrong foot but I’m willing to make it right and then go on from there! |

JB HUNT is by far the worst Company I have worked for.If you are schelduled for orientation ,dont do it, you will be on this forum teling the new recruits how they are about to get the finger too. Them A-Holes out of Lowell Ak, make up #### as they go to find reasons to get rid of you. Too bad it took me a few months to realize that, got so pissed with the constant BS, I told the DM, when you're done playing these F*&^%N Games give me a call, Terminated for INsubordination.. go figure... Best I've felt in months.. Thanks JB HUNT

Hey Mack E-6, if he wants to spend his hard-earned money on a GPS, that costs what a $1000, then let him. Personally I'll spend mine on a $20 map and some on a good CB (still less than $1000 together and more effective, I might add)and I bet that I will beat him to wherever he is going!
