Southern Cal Transport-Eagle Motor Freight- Southern Cartage

After doing some investigation that was brought on by a member on my website about these companies, I personally can say that I would not work for any of these companies. They are all owned and managed by the same people. They are:

Southern Cal Transport called So Cal Transport for short the main office is located at 148 ST Avenue West
Birmingham, Alabama 35207. They have terminals in several other states.

They own the brokerage company So Cal Logistics which I have no information on, which is located at the same address.

Southern Cartage, located at 7004 Saint Andrews Ct. Montgomery, AL.

Eagle Motor Lines, located at 148 ST Av W Birmingham, AL

Souther Cal Transport has been caught red handed telling drivers that they were terminated for one reason and putting an entirely different entry including false and erroneous entries on drivers and owner operators USIS(DAC)reports. This is documented.

I've looked at their safety record with FMCSA which you can find here [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. and noticed that they have been subject to on site inspections for at least the past two years. You'll have to read the accident reports and other information to come to your own conclusions

After talking to the FMCSA inspector who explained to me that when a companies safety record is so unsatisfactory and they have multiple violations then they are subject to more on-site as well as roadside inspections.

my wife n i worked with this company approx 11 months in the 2006-2007 seasons and we did'nt have any complaints with them. they always did what they said they would do both milewise and paywise. we were always treated fair and got home on time. to work there you must be motivated to work long and hard for 3 weeks. usually it was no problem 4 them if we requested 5 days off instead of three unless alot of things have changed since we were there other than them buying out Southern Cartage in Montgomery Al. Southern Cal ownes alot of trucking companies that people are not aware of. they just have diffrent names and independant administration. "who knows" you may work for a So Cal company too and dont know it.

Angry

I worked for Howard hall when they were bought out by Southern Cal. They did alright by me. I had to leave to get my life back into order after my wife had passed.. I was told to I could come back anytime after I got thing ok in my life. In 6 month I tried to start again with them.. and they said I wasn't their kind of drive and they didn't want me back.. later on I found out that because I was one of the old drivers and kept records. I knew what the routes paid.. It seems that towns were getting closer..... what was 850 miles suddenly became 835 miles and no one knew where that came from...
I didn't know but I still had my pay records and my trip mileage records...
this happened once when I was there then the operations manager left. After I had left he returned and was up to his old trick of shorting the mileage between towns...

Phil, Man that really sucks! It's bad enough to have to deal with your wife passing, then to be turned down because "you weren't their kind of driver"? I think I would have lost it. with 35 years experience, there's a good trucking company out there that would actually appreciate and value your experience. You should try and get back into trucking. After all, statistically, older, experienced drivers are safer. No disrepect meant to the newbies, but it is a fact! Anyway, good luck to you, partner, I hope you find happiness and maybe a decent job.

Oh I'm trying to get back in the seat again. But age and phyiscal problems are the killers. Bad left shoulder..25 lb weight limit, Bad back, and all from work accidents. One outfir told me that they couldn't use because I could only lift 50 lbs. And I told the lady I wasn't a lumper, the heavest I had to lift was myself into the truck. She wasn't happy with me..to bad.

Phil, I know what you mean about age and physical problems! I have type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. That's why I just took a job with a flatbed company. Hope it works for me, as I need the exercise. I know you have physical limitations, but heck, your 35 years in trucking is very valuable. And like you said, you're not a lumper, you're a driver. Whatever you want to do in the future, my hat is off to you! I'm an old guy too at 54. Luckily for me, I haven't ever injured myself, but I only have about 6 years in trucking.

socal

Socal aka southern cal in birmingham USED to be a excellent outfit to work for but they have gone threw so many changes and have made several bad choices on booking loads and now most of the team drivers are now doing solo type runs and when the drivers complain about the low mile they basicly black ball you! and they will starve you out slowly we were there 2yrs and we went from 6500 miles to less then 2 thousand per week they blame it on the economy ( which is a valid to a point} but the drivers they like are averaging about 5 thousand a week which is all we wanted, WE WERE NEVER LATE WITH A LOAD ON PICK UP OR DELIVERY EVER!!!!!
i personally have been told to do short runs less then 300 round trip and NOT TO LOG IT! also have been to by their so called log dept to turn in replacement logs to ensure they won't get a violation ITS ILLEGAL TO "REPLACE LOGS ONCE TURN IN... also they claim they dont play the favorites game but we know 1st hand they do we were once a favorite team then we upset the head load planner becuase he made a bad choice on a account stuck us on it and expected us not to complain!!!!!! 3000 miles in 7 days 12 drops with no drop pay , no detention pay and nothing to make up for the low miles every driver on these runs complained , oh yea they new policy is they dont wont drivers talking to each other, to the point the will bad mouth you to other teams to break your freindship with them up. THESE THINGS I WROTE HERE ACTUALLY HAPPEND TO ME AND I HAVE THE LEGAL RIGHT TO POST IT. they starved us out and their open door policy is a flat out joke, so if you you work there DONE COMPLAIN AND YOU WILL BE FINE if you can afford to starve for a while. good luck

Panel Truck Southern Cal

First there is no policy on other drivers talking with one another, so I don't know where you get that from, the economy has done a lot of damage to trucking companies, including Socal, yes they have made a lot of bad choices recently, but I doubt very seriously that they can tell who you can and can not talk to, as far as Logs, where your logs missing? and did they ask you for the copies? Bet thats what it was there. At least you didn't have to take a pay cut like the Solo division did

burning after reading

i never said its a policy they don't like it and i was told flat out to refrain doing so, logs they claim they don't have yet out of lets say 5 days worth all sent in together one will come up missing THAT'S THEIR PROBLEM not mine if they lose/ misplace one of a drivers logs then he/she replaces it and D.O.T. audits socal finds 2 logs for same day YOU WILL BE BLAMED AS TURNING IN TWO LOGS socal no any employer will admit they goofed.
as far as they paycut to go solo thats a way socal can reduce their solo drivers they also cut your trucks back twice already just before we left thier they cut solo trucks back to 62 WHY DRIVE SOMETHING THAT GOES THAT SLOW? when most transist time are no 50mph , any solo thats working at socal needs to quit and go with a solo ONLY outfit southern cal only wants teams and if your not liked they will starve you out, i used to praise them and i would stand up to defend them at a drop of a hat, but their tempermental head load planner and "we dont negotiate" anything mentality is behind the times, they used to pay for extra stuff now they wont, also they some dispatchers over micro manage their fleets fuel stops so much they cannot keep up,with their own BS they did the day before, i/we were warned about our dispatcher the day we got there yet we found no fault with he/she until times got tough and our miles dropped, its to easy to replace a team these days with so many outfits going under, if your solo i would jump.'
