Knight Tranportation

just another reason... was sitting at a truck stop 40 miles outside of Atlanta. Can not shut down inside the Atlanta Perimeter,(company rules).. so i had to drive 40 miles west.. closest.. was in my 5th hour of shutdown when my phone goes off.. do not know the number so do not answer... they call again... then the qualcomm goes off.. they need my trailer in cartersville now... the shipper needs the trailer.. i told them i cannot move before 2200... and that it is about 100 miles north of me.. could be their around midnight.. they send back.. only 66 miles and the load is going to NJ.. could i get my trailer there asap.. told them i would not mind going there after my break was up.. and btw... how about that preplan.. send several more msgs asking for the preplan... never came across... then night dispatch tells me i have no preplan loaded.. so i call him on the phone and find out that another truck was given the preplan... so a little trick to get my empty to the shipper so the person bobtailing could have a trailer...and then leave me without... told my dispatch in the morning .. do not like games.... no preplan no move truck... just another reason...

When I first started driving I used to help the company put out fires all the time but then they come to the well to many times and you only end up with less miles and less money and lots of waiting around.

I do not answer my qualcomm while I am on my break and dispatch knows that if they ask me to roll the truck while I am, my next call will be to the safety dept.

What is it with Knight? How come only a few trucks seem to have an E-Z Pass? Is there some kind of rule who gets one and who dosen't?

As a military retired looking to suppliment my income and with no need to be home I thought (and thnk) abt driving..yet, when I read all the comments in here, I wonder why any one is still driving at all. If ALL drivers got together and stopped for for more than a day it would get everyones attention. I have VA to pat for a decent CDL school but now I wonder if that is just good money into bad after hearing all the "horror stories" that abounds in here.....maybe I shoudl grow a beard and live under a bridge....lol.....

You really would be better off living under a bridge than working for any of the large truckload companies. It's deplorable the way some of these guys are treated. (Albeit some of them bring it on themselves by bein' as stupid as they are).

why didnt you shut down at the yard in Forest Park? I shut down there many times while I drove there.I know it is a dump, but that is one of the reasons that yard is there, is so when you are in Atanta you have a place to park. This doesnt really make sense, why didnt you just shut down in Cartersville, that is a lot closer than 40 miles west, Cartersville is a lot closer than 100 miles North of you. 100 miles North and you would have been practically out of the state. I never had a problem getting in or out of Georgia with Knight. Im not sure how come you did. You should have known that if you did not accept the pre-plan, you wouldnt get one until you were done with your break or whatever. First in Fiost out, that is how it has always worked at Knight and that is how it should always work.
Plus , if you have driven for Knight for any length of time(I drove ther for 2.5 years) then you know that you are not getting pre-planned after 4pm, so you should have told them earlier that you needed a pre-plan. Knight never bothered me during my breaks, ever. BTW, I was averaging somewhere around 2900 miles a week , in fact the last year that I drove there I drove more miles than any other single driver in the Eastern US. I beleive it was 139,000 give or take a few.

Best reason why not, they make you drop your empty upon arriving at that yard. Good luck finding one IF you get a load after your 10.

Okay, it's now the 20th of the month. I've got a total of 4100 miles and haven't been home since the 15th of last month. Only load I refused was a local in Atlanta because I had already delivered my load and had a MT.

It's not usually this bad for me, I run a consistent 12k in the western 7 but agreed to take a load to Georgia for a change of pace. Since I got there on the 30th of last month is been here's you a 300 mile load that picks up tomorrow and delivers the next day. Never again.

Must be the same for the West guys. I remember 1 time I asked to go west, and they told me that I probally didnt want to because I may be stuck out there for a while. SO I didnt go, but I ran a pretty consistent 11,000 + in the East. The farthest west I ever got with Knight was Tulsa, or maybe Grand Island, Nebraska--I went there once, but I did my share of PA, CT, NJ and NY with them. I bet I could run PA with my eyes closed, I bet I have been down every pigpath in it.

It's Knight's dirty little secret, each division and region competes against the others. So they screw the out of division drivers so they can win. They don't screw drivers from neighboring divisions because they have to work with those divisions to get there own drivers decent freight too. Take a load out of your area though, and you best have a supply of KY with you.
