Mack I am recent grad from a CDL school. Taking Tip's advice I will not say what school it was. I was thinking about signing on with Sift as they take new drivers right out of school. After reading the tons of posts that said I would do better in a lion cage with an open wound I decided againt it. (Thanks to all the truckers out there who took there time to point a newbie in the right direction!!!) If companies like Swift read this forum on a daily basis how can they not be forced to change? Are there really that many newbies that don't ask any questions and just plunge right in only to find out 3 months later that they are working for a terrible company? Thanks to you and all the others on this forum for all of the help and advice. I will keeep reading before I decide who to sign up with.

Swift has been making some improvements here as of late, so they are at least attempting to clean up their act. However, I still don't want to work there.

If you can find a local job you'd be better off, unless you want to go OTR.

No... they are not worried in the least. I've been driving for 8 years, lived in 4 states, and driven for some major dirt bags-you know who you are-and seen things that would make a lot of people cringe. I can tell you right now that companies don't care, because they know that drivers don't have anywhere else to go unless they have 2 or 3 years of experience. They also know that they can fire you for scratching paint on a bumper, and then replace you with somebody else for 10 cents less per mile. So no, don't think for one second that these scum bags are worried about what is being said here.

Yep, most of these companies only care as long as it is in their interest to care. Most are sneaky and dishonest most of the time, and will throw you under the bus no matter how loyal you are. Most companies are set up to reward you for your hard work when you are new but then after a couple of years they could care less.

I do think that they care about how websites might affect new drivers perceptions. Because that may have a effect on recruiting which affects them, but would it be enough to force them to change? I doubt it, since they can just treat you right long enough till they don't need you anymore because you are no longer making bottom of the barrel wages anymore and they can screw up your DAC to make it harder to find a JOB.

My last company had a new hire getting 4 cents a mile in raises their first year. A experienced driver would get 1 cent a mile in raises after a year. And many companies are like that. They reward inexperienced drivers better in a effort to keep them for a year or two, but then could care less because they know they can label you as a job hopper if you try to better your situation as a experienced driver.

I have been reading recent court cases concerning companies who report to DAC and was surprised on how vague they are when it can affect a drivers career. One driver had 8 accidents reported to DAC from 2 different companies. None where traffic related and 1 was for hitting a deer and another for getting high centered. Only 3 had minor claims paid out yet they where all reported to DAC as preventable accidents. They can also say that you violated company policy's with out any explanation or proof being given. My experience in trucking is that the policy's change so much that it would be impossible for the average driver to be sure they where always in compliance. I have read policy's to DP verbatim out of their own manual and they simply just say. Well we changed that one, or it is no longer in affect etc...

Hi all, new here, and I just found this website, And I'm glad I did, I have been driving for 21 years now, was a O/O for most of them, and now a company driver, and I'm looking for something niew to do, but man I did not know how bad it was out there, I think I may say where I'm at, I like it here, These trucking co. readlly need to watch there back, It's time to go back to being a O/O I think.
