a lot of people got caught up in his personality, not his beliefs. He will take this country into bankrupcy and a war that will make Iraq look like a football game. Hes too weak, the world knows it. this isnt the time for weakness. too many bad people out there. he worries more about his image than making smart choices. He lets Harry and Nancy pull his strings. He needs to grow a pair.

Thats the beauty of this country... We are free to disagree with one another and even speak out against our elected officials.

Still not going to get into this political discussion. Shall we "agree to disagree?"

political view

respectfully, all politicians are essentially evil and out for themselves. just have to choose the best of the worst.

Hmmmm. Now you want to bring religion into it as well??? Lets try to stay on topic shall we?

I hope we can leave the philosophical and political discussions out of this thread.

To be honest, I am surprised this thread is still in play. Very little new info has been offered and simply seems to be a rehash of old grievances.

Perhaps it is time to let this 1 die?

I think he's including all time spent in the truck. Sleeping, nose picking, and self-love, et al.

company

if you need a job till something else comes along, its OK. not to make a career move to. you aslso need to let things roll of your back. If you are a sensitive person, dont go theree.

It depends...

It depends on what you are looking for. In my case I wanted to be home each weekend and still take home a thousand a week. Normally I average well over 60 grand a year here. The benefits were free for me AND the family when I first started as well (now they are $40.00 a week for family coverage). The benefits were head and shoulders above any other company I had worked for previously as well.

The down side was a low horsepower, no engine brake, small bunk, high mileage truck to use to do my job. We also did ALLOT of short runs through out the Northeast INCLUDING New York and Boston so you had to really hustle to make the appointments each day. Now I have a standard size truck and run a dedicated route with my spouse back and forth to Florida twice a week.

Eastern is a SMALL carrier compared to many of the other carriers discussed on this forum. Workers that do switch from a mega carrier to Eastern go through a bit of a shock at first.

We only have "1" terminal. We do utilize all the NEMF terminals system wide but there is some internal tension between the divisions;

NEMF is union and Eastern is non union.

Nemf owns all the equipment and does not like to share trailers.

Fueling protocols vary from terminal to terminal and can be very time consuming and frustrating for a new driver.

Repairs on equipment are "worked in" when possible unless it is really something minor and then the shops will get to it asap to get you back on the road. Slip seating is always an option and is pretty common place.

There are no "adequate" shower facilities available. This means the showers that are available do not have towels available nor do you have a private room to shower in as many larger companies offer. At EFW the showers (1 each) are located in the rest rooms. Not sure how often they are cleaned but they do not seem to get much use anyway.

Some companies offer a courtesy car to go get something to eat while waiting at the terminal for a load or work to be done on your truck. Eastern/Nemf does not. There is a company van used for orientation and to send drivers for drug tests but is usually not used otherwise.

Eastern management goes home at Friday midnight and does not come back in 'till Monday morning at 0600.
If you do work the weekend and have a break down it is sometimes difficult to get help. You may have to wait for a while for the "on call" guy to return your phone call. Better make sure you have additional contact numbers just in case. I have the home phone numbers of Tommy, Brian, Ray, and Carlos (NEMF shop contact and road service guy), as well as the normal company direct line.

HOS and logging are strictly enforced and drivers routinely lose their monthly bonus for "violating the HOS."

Eastern management does not micromanage their drivers. We are given our assignments and expected to complete them. For this we are pretty much left to our own devices and collect a fairly decent pay check at the end of the week (or at least we used to before the economy tanked).

This outfit is great for "old schoolers." Drivers that are good time managers and are capable of dealing with customers, directions, schedules, traffic, and even some maintenance on their own normally thrive here.

Drivers that need allot of attention such as routing, directions to customers (on a regular basis), call in allot, or complain too much usually do not stay long.

I use a laptop for routing and a cell phone to contact customers directly for directions or to verify appointments and over nite parking options. I rarely call anyone at Eastern unless there is a problem I cannot handle myself.

I succeed here because I have an o/o mentality. The truck I am assigned to "belongs" to me. I run it the way I see fit. I try to maintain the truck to the best of my ability and will jerry rig a truck to complete my run if need be. I replace lights, bulbs, hoses, airlines, patch holes, salvage mud flaps from parking lots and re-attach them to a trailer rather than buy one or pay a mechanic to install one. Blow a tire? If its an outside dual I will remove it and continue to a truck stop to have it replaced. If it is an inside tire I will limp along at reduced speed until I get to a repair shop. I have even fixed air ride suspension control arms with duct tape and re-attached a broken wiper arm with dental floss to continue up the road. I do these things on the fly and get them repaired correctly as soon as I make it to a terminal.

The way I see it is; if I save my carrier money by not getting repairs on the road they will continue to be solvent and I will continue to have a job. All it takes is some initiative and a "can do" attitude. If you have this you can and will succeed anywhere.
