This actually was implemented last year for office workers. Beginning January 1 all drivers were integrated into the "new method" of determining how many days you are allotted to take off. As I understand it 1 weeks vacation is now calculated as 40 hours or 8 hrs per day in the case of paid sick days, personal days, and holidays. Compensation is your normal hourly rate multiplied by the number of hours you have.

In your case based on your hire date it was determined that you will get 3 days paid vacation (3x8=24) to use up 'till December 31st at which time any days you have not used become forfeit.

The good thing is now once January 1st rolls around again you automatically are eligible for 3 paid sick days, 2 paid personal days, and 5 paid vacation days. No more waiting until your actual "anniversary date" to replenish paid days off.

I believe if you have 3 years in with Eastern then you get 2 weeks or 10 days paid vacation (80 hours). After 7 years employment you get 3 weeks vacation or 15 actual paid days off (120 hours).

Under the current set up I too lost some paid time off. Not happy about it but things change. In the long run it isn't worth getting bent out of shape over especially if you take a step back and consider how many other companies have folded up, dropped wages, and discontinued benefits. Heck YRC teamsters are in the process of making concessions to keep their jobs which seems to include pay cuts for all of them.

Hang tough! Its going to be a bumpy ride for a while.

PS I did mention this policy change in the thread I started titled; "Eastern Freightways Better Than Average." Post #10 titled "Its A New Year" does in fact give a detailed explanation of this policy change (dated 01/16/09). I am sure some of the readers probably missed this thread so I am including a link here to that thread;
