Star Transport, morton il

I went to work for Star form school with all the hopes and promises of having
a good job. they don't care if you get the miles. i don't know how people survive there year out here. you can't make s*** unless you cook or as they say open face logging. they are more than happy to pay your fines(since they payroll deduct it). but if you run according to the rules you sit and they starve you. this whole experience has been a joke and if i quit i owe $$$$ for school and whatever. did anyone know how to get out of the mess? i don't have a prob paying back my student loan, its all the other crap they chase you for. my biggest concern is i hear that once you apply somewhere else, Star starts messing with your DAC and screws you.

If you can leave on good terms (as in not cussing them out the door) you should be fine aside from the $ they make you pay back. Most places even deduct it for you from your check if you ask.

Now, Being in Rockford, you shouldn't have much problem finding new Class-A work...Heck, an internet connection will get you a new Class-A job.

Heck, Having grown up in Mount Carroll IL myself, I remember seeing Star Transport everywhere...Nowadays all I hear is their Terminal is a joke, their Training makes Swift look Professional, and their trucks are more or less held together with Bubble Yum and Duct Tape....Some of it may be a fallacy, but after hearing about 20 people say the same thing in a day, it gets monotonous.

Remember, starting out right after school you’re the low man on the totem pole. The more experienced drivers are going to get their miles before you get yours, at any company.

Star is a small company, and has more trouble getting their new drivers miles than some of the larger companies. If you stick with it, it will eventually get better.

Are you signed to a one year contract? Try your best to complete the one year, even you if don’t make as much money as you thought you would…because then you won’t have to pay back the school tuition and you’ll have a one year under your belt WITH THE SAME COMPANY. Sticking around means a lot to many companies, and will make it easier getting a better job once the contract is up.

Anyway, good luck and I hope it works out for the best.

Oh…and I always thought STAR’s trucks looked really nice. The ones I see around here all look brand new.

Maybe it's on you...

I've worked for Star for 14 months. I'm not going to say that everything is wonderful. Then again, I didn't come into my first year thinking that I would get 3500 miles per year and never sit anywhere. I've had some bad weeks but many good weeks as well. Maybe, this driver should look at what he's doing. Are you delivering ontime?? Are you being realistic??
You're a first year driver. There's going to be some crap to be taken.

Is this the Star with the white Pete's (with the red Star written on the door and trailers) or the other one? I get them confused...

Now that I know which Star it is, I talked to a Star driver once in Illinois. He said that most of the loads are Cat loads and, if they lost that, they'd have nothing. That's just what I heard.

From an outsider looking in, I always thought their equipment was top notch...Looks can be deceiving I guess.
