Swift is a bad company

Okay, Swift lied to me and told me I had a job. The liar, recruiter, said that my felony record had been ran through investigations and I was cleared for employment. Well it had not. When I got to KC they harrassed me each day I was there about it. Made me call investigations and exolain what happened. After going through all their #### and paper work , I was supposedly hired. Then I and 12 others were all told to go home and wait for a few weeks. Well nothing ever happened.
I quit a good job making 800.00 in 5 days driving an end dump. Now I am unemployed because of Swift and their lies.

They average about 1 dead driver a week. 8 the week before I went there. This is because of the lousy training they have. No experience in mountains or snow or heavy city traffic untill you are in the last 3 weeks of training. ( before this you only drive 2 hours a day 1 week and 4 the next and 9 the next) all in light traffic areas and decent weather. Then you spend 3 weeks 11 hours a day in the mountains and big cities and such. But, you are team driving then. So you are getting no training for this danger. You mentor is asleep.

Stay away from Swift

Hey Krazman; Most companies won't hire drivers with a felony conviction,as you can not go into Canada.

once you clear their hurdles. and get hired, swift is one of the better companies for otr.they have the largest freight base and the pay per a mile is very compettitive.
you got to know how to work their system. even with a bad d.m. if you take the inicitive to cummunicate to planers and dispatchers you will be moving.

In Hindsight

To say that Swift sucks is like saying you'll get wet when you go out in the rain. Thanks, but we know that already.

You shot yourself in the foot when you believed the recruiter himself was shooting straight. Recruiters lie, man. You know that now, I know. Too bad you didn't know that earlier. They can lie because most of the time, the pinkie finger doesn't know what the ring finger is doing. Sometimes this is accidental, but most of the time it's intentional. No, a recruiter doesn't have to tell anyone at the company what he knows about incoming candidates. Your recruiter was typical. He rolled the dice and took a chance. He had nothing to lose, after all. YOU lose, but you are not his concern.

Yeah I drive a Swift truck
And that means one thing
It means she's slow
It's a typical company truck
It's just all show and no go

I'm gettin' passed by Yella
And even Overnite
I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

With who, McDonald's?

They just lost a $35,000,000 lawsuit because they could not produce 1 log book for a 6 month period from a driver who killed someone.

They make up for all the cheap freight they haul by taking the money and credit rating away from the individuals who don't run in the opposite direction when they see what they are willing to hire by doing a 360 in one of their cattle calls.

Pop the champagne bottle, for here comes Karma

Swift lost what again? 35 MILLION? I just want you to repeat that figure to make sure I read it right. What happened in this case? Sounds like I need to get out the champagne bottle and celebrate, as Karma has come along and kicked some ### again.

Yeah, Jerry and company, remember all those guys you ###### over in the past? Now you're getting your due, #######.

Again, what happened here?

Swift trucking takes $36.5 million hit from fatal crash

Brent Whiting
The Arizona Republic
Dec. 3, 2007 04:58 PM

Swift Transportation Co., a Phoenix-based trucking giant, has been slapped for $36.5 million in damages in a lawsuit over a fatal traffic crash in Kansas.

The verdict, which included more than $13.5 million in punitive damages, was returned Friday after a nearly four-week trial in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Steven Copple, a Phoenix lawyer for the winning side in the court battle, argued that significant monetary damages were warranted in the case because Swift failed to cough up driver logs the company was required to keep under federal regulations.

The logs, which Swift claimed it was unable to produce, may have shed light on whether the Swift driver at fault in the crash may have been cruising down a roadway in a fatigued physical state, Copple said.

"We were hampered in our efforts to determine if he was, in fact, fatigued," Copple said Monday.

The hefty verdict clearly represents the significance placed by jurors over the loss of a Kansas man who left behind a widow and eight children, ages 13 to 26, at the time of the crash, Copple said.

Robert Greer, a Phoenix attorney for Swift, said the verdict will be carefully reviewed and legal remedies for the trucking company will be sought in the trial court and, if necessary, in the appellate courts.

The lawsuit was filed in July 2004 by the survivors of Thomas Steven, 57, of Wichita, the owner of a plumbing-supply business who was killed in a crash near Hutchinson, Kan.

The crash occurred in April 2004 when the driver of a Swift rig failed to slow down while motoring at 65 mph on Kansas 61 on a sweeping, flat curve leading to the intersection with U.S. 50, according to court documents filed by Copple.

Kevin Jones, the driver, cruised over three sets of rumble strips that are designed to warn motorists of an approaching stop-sign controlled intersection, according to the documents.

The driver then ran a stop sign and crashed into a Chevrolet Suburban, killing Steven and seriously injuring two passengers in the vehicle, according to the documents.

"Mr. Jones never did more than apply light to moderate pressure on the brakes," Copple argued in the court papers. "He never thought about stopping."

Following the crash, Jones was unable to offer an explanation why he failed to stop, Copple argued.

In April, Swift shareholders voted to approve the sale of the trucking firm to the Glendale businessman who founded it more than 40 years ago.

Jerry Moyes was to pay $31.55 per share, or about $2.4 billion in cash, and take on $332 million in debt to regain control of the company. He had been forced out as chief executive in October 2005 but remained on the board of directors.

Thanks for posting that, Pins

Pins, thanks for posting the details of the crash.

So the lawyer for the plaintiff was himself from Phoenix? I wonder if that is just a coincidence or if he volunteered to take the case because he had an axe to grind with SwiftQuit?
