| I considered Stevens when i was looking at companies (my choices were limited since i didnt have a CDL) and i quickly decided against stevens due to several reasons and narrowed it down to Crete, Roehl and Schneider, I eventually chose Schneider and am still with them today, overall i am happy with them and would reccomend them to anyone looking to get their CDL and a decent company as a starting point. |

I agree that at the end of the day the decision is yours. One man's poison is another man's treasure. I know of a Stevens employee not sure if he is still there and of course like you I did talk to a recruiter. I liked that fact that their avg. length of haul was over 1k/mi but that does not guarantee that you will get it. YOu will likely get all the miles you can stand. The recruiter also told me to be prepared to be out 4-5 weeks and she was correct since a few weeks later I happened to meet her husband that still drives for them today (7yrs and is a trainer) at a truck stop and he confirmed this. You will go to NYC but not necessarily for every run so, if narrow roads and intense situations are not your cup of tea there again is also something to think about. Since you will be training with Stevens a final consideration is the training itself. Are the trainers held to any nationally recognized standard? If this is matters to you then realize where you are going(your first trucking job of perhaps many), what you're doing this for(to get a Class A; drive and get paid), and stick to it. I think their commitment now is two years if I'm not mistaken and you're not paying much out of pocket which for most, of us is a difference maker. Plenty of time for you to become a proficient driver and hone your skill. All careers have their good days and bad ones, trucking is no exeption to this. Best of luck to you and hopefully I'll see you on the road. ![]() Grinn |
