I would start looking for another company now even though you are just starting with the "Gold Rush" -Why wait when you will just get further into debt. Hang in there and hope for the best, but start looking for other opportunities now.

CRST = "Fool's Gold"

Hey, at least Winter is pretty much over.

If I drive a company truck, I will damn well expect the company to pay for it's upkeep. That includes little things like washer fluid and fuses. They can add up over the course of a year and I'm not going to be willing to come out of my own pocket for it.

Great... I just started with CRST. I went from computer geek to truck driver after a lay off and was all excited about it, but now I'm starting to see problems with this company. I, too did the 8 month selling of my soul to them, and now after trainer have been stuck on home time for 2 weeks possibly 3 weeks because co-drivers I'm supposed to go out with are quitting OR dispatch is impossible to get ahold of. Don't get me started on night dispatch, ugh... I did the kirkwood training and although I consider myself safe (stay away from drugs, alchy even on layovers) because I have a 3 year old to get home to (highest priority for me), I don't feel their crash course testing and mentoring prepares you for JACK. Especially when you are sitting for days sometimes not getting the xp you need. I'm hoping this problem of no pay for extended periods that are beyond my control may allow me to get out of this god awful contract and get with a company who actually does things for you. Like one person said, they will help if you step on some toes, but good luck getting ahold of anyone in a timely manner.

Also as far as washer fluid debacle, etc... it's not a matter of the price, its the prinicple of it that he should not be responsible (unless he is a O/O) As far as whining, as stated above, it's all in the cards. Hope you have a good dispatcher, that you don't have to deal with night shift dispatch or maitenance like we did during a few breakdowns, which brings up having a reliable truck. We had an air leak and contacted maitenance saying it was audible air leak. We were told by night maitenance that they didn't have part at local TA and would be there tomorrow. Well, dispatch after being TOLD the problem informed the local TA that it was a hub seal. An audible leak on a HUB SEAL???! They had to go back, and informed us they had the tools to fix that and could of had us rolling at 2am that morning, instead we were there till 1pm the next day. Yeah, that CRST night/weekend shifts.

These dispatchers are not usually drivers are are usually not truck savy. =You are usually better off with roadside service or diagnosing the problem yourself.

="fool's gold" isn't just about the pay =it's fools all the way around.

About to join

I was about to go to Cedar Rapids for orientation. But then I got a call this morning from swift. As I am just a country boy and a rookie in truckin, I still know that I prefer Solo to a team anytime. So I am heading to Swift on Monday, but I will keep CRST in my pocket as a CYA tactic just in case somthing falls through, apparently i made the right choice. I do agree with everyone though, if a co. says it, then they should do as expected just the same they expect you too uphold their policy. Never let anyone take away from you, I am very hard headed on this, I dont care if its a dollar, a dollar a day is 365/366 leap year, it adds up.

My girls started their driving career with CRST. The only positive thing I can say about this company is that once you make it through the eight month contract you will definitely know how to drive in every possible type of road and weather condition. CRST puts their drivers on some of the worst roads in the country and under the worst weather conditions.

Their equipment is terrible. The girls were assigned a truck that had 350,000 miles on it and every trip out they had to put it in the shop for repairs. The company refused to do repairs they deemed to be unnecessary, such as fixing the air conditioner or replacing a door latch mechanism so the passenger side door would close properly. Getting them to pay for wiper blades or fluids for the truck was a joke. After fighting that battle a few times the girls purchased those items themselves and kept them on the truck.

To their credit, the girls stuck it out through their eight month contract period, but they were only able to do so because we helped them financially. The pay at CRST was terrible and they had weeks when they had almost no paycheck at all. The girls worked past their eight month contract date before turning in their two week notice. When they notified the company they were leaving the company immediately froze their Comdata cards which had this previous weeks paycheck on it. CRST never paid them their final paycheck.

If you have a family and are looking for a job that will provide an income to support your family then I would advise you to steer clear of CRST. This company will starve you to death.
