Thumbs down WERNER ENTERPRISES, Omaha, Ne

New drivers and those of you just out of school, do your homework before you choose to drive for Werner. I got my CDL im May/07, went straight into training with Werner, started driving for them in July/07 My 1st truck was a Peterbilt 379. They sent me out on my graduation run with a truck that was not street legal. I pulled into the Atlanta terminal and sat there for 8 days while they were attempting to make that old skow road worthy. I went to driver relations and was assigned a Kenworth. I then hit the road and stayed out till Sept. 6. So, was out for June, July and Aug. and asked for home time. I asked for Sept. 1. Didn't get home till Sept. 6. After 4 days off I hit the road and asked for home time on Nov. 22 for a doctor apt. They got me home on the 23rd. They wanted me to drive thru Thanksgiving and Christmas. I said no. I was doing all 48 states and Canada. I added up my pay stubs and broke it down to an hourly wage. I was averaging $6.00 an hour. I can make more money washing dishes at Denny's. After Thanksgiving I started running into trouble with my dispatcher. Had delays in getting loads. Would sit for two days and then get a load that was Just on time and then deliver and get another load that was required to be picked up when my HOS was used up. This happened week after week. They would insist that I pick up a hazmat load when I had less then two hours to load and get to a Truck Stop for break. Couldn't finish on time and had to be towed to a truck stop. Because I was new to the trade I felt that what ever the dispatcher gave you, it was your duty to take it. It was the most frustrating experience I have ever had all the way from the inexperienced trainer who never stopped or took showers to the broken down truck to the dispatch politics. For my grand finale, I was involved in a roll-over accident. I am curently receiving treatment for my leg injury and today I got a call from Werner Safety telling me that I was fired for not having my truck under control. They said that on one of the "reports" (they wouldn't tell me which one) it was reported that I fell asleep at the wheel. I never saw this on any report nor did I ever say this. Remember this- Werner is always hireing, just like McDonalds. A good friend of mine who has driven for Werner for over 4 years told me that Werner has over a 90% attrition rate. He just turned in his truck and is going to drive for CRETE, and get this, Crete is paying him .10 cents a mile more then he was getting at Werner. I,m sorry that I did not do my homework before choosing Werner.

Oh yes--good old werner. They force you to take a load you cant drive and then write you up for running out of hours in the middle of no where. I did a few months with werner and it was a lot of hurry up and wait too. You definitely will go broke workin for werner.

I am glad i never worked for them. I pull corn or beans and they don't consider that OTR. I put in an application with them and they told me to call them after i have 30 days experience!! LOL What a joke. I am going to go somewhere but not with them.

i drive for werner and I am not broke. I have driven for them for 2 years and they have not given me a reason to quit. I am on the Anheuser Busch 48 state dedicated account. I am home every weekend if I wanted to be. Big companies are a hit or miss.

Do you get to see all the 48 states? LOL I was on 48 state OTR but all i got to see was friggen Ny, Nj, Pa, and the new england states--so mainly they kept me in the friggen northeast--and somehow that dont add to 48 states to me. But im from the south--what do i know right? LOL I sat waitin so much--it made me broke. Maybe im just on the wrong side of the world. But in my experience--i hated it! I had to raise pure hell from may-july to get my friggen air fixed right. By the way--it supposedly got fixed 3 times in those 3 months but it still never got right and they could careless that i could only sleep 2 hours a nite in the middle of nashville, tn # 90 degrees. I am sure there are some that like werner and have a good experience with them but I am not one.

Heck man it hasn't been all that long that people didn't even have air conditioners, they survived for thousands of years. I just turned 29 the other day and I can remember when I didn't have an air conditioner. Just a couple years ago 2003 I didn't have an air conditioner as I was in Iraq a lot hotter than 90 degrees believe me anywhere around 120's or so some days a little hotter. If it got down to 100 degrees for one day you was happy. We didn't cry and whine about it though. I remember when we come home we flew from Mosul down to Kuwait and caught a flight from Kuwait to the states. While we were in Kuwait it was around 135 to 140 degrees.

I've only been on the Anheuser Busch dedicated account for 6 months. I see alot of the same places but I am alright with that. In the past 2 years, I've touched every state except for Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, California, Oregon and Washington.

Dude--do i look like i am in kuwait? umm No i am not nor plan to be!! But i also am not gonna be in a truck tryin to sleep when they can fix crap thats broke! Ordinaryguy--i know of many that were happy with them but i wasnt--they kept running me on less than 500 mile runs and then sitting for hours therefore costin me money. I am sure a dedicated is much different but they seemed to keep me in the same area and i hated it. I didnt mind the runs--but you haul butt to run 250 miles to get loaded and get there and have to burn up your hours waitin on it--cant make nothing like that. Its good to hear they actually treat some people good Good luck to you and be safe out there! Take care!

I didn't say you were in Kuwait. My point is that 90 degrees is not all that bad and you will live through it without an air conditioner I promise. Like I said it hasn't been all that long that people didn't have air conditioners of any kind. Stay hydrated drink plenty of water and wear cool clothing like 100% cotton and you will be just fine promise.
