Well as frustrating as it may be "that's trucking"... no matter what no 2 trucks are going to pull the hills exact same..
Back in the day (70's) when I road around with my dad it was very common thing to be running pretty dang fast down the hills... cops really didn't bother them that much back then like they do nowadays.. Run fast down the hill so you can get a good start on the next.. not just making up time but also can save on fuel that way as well.. Not trying to encourage such behavior with the last comment..

Here is an example you probably have no ideal of nor probably even thought of far as that goes....
Doubles will run fast down a hill not even touching the brake cause if they do they are pretty much dead.. Why? because they do hit the brakes the pup will start swinging around on them (very very easily)and once that happens there is no comming back.. several reasons why they will do this weather, they wagons they are pulling ext... is it dangerous? here the correct phrase would be which one is more dangerous... And even a more appropriate phrase would be pulling doubles is dangerous no matter what you do...
Far as the comment "wouldn't be surprised they was taking it out of gear"..
Let me help you out there.. why do the schools teach this? yes it is always a good ideal to be in gear I agree with that 100% but let me help you out a little more in why they teach this... Governed trucks.... Again I will say it Governed trucks.. (not the only reason but one they don't teach you) let me explain::: a governed truck will not allow you to run the RPM's high enough to get a truck that is rolling down a hill at high speed.. Thus a governed truck would have to use ALL BRAKE to slow the truck to the point where he could get it in gear.. A ungoverned truck can get the RPM's high enough to (unless he is just going crazy crazy crazy fast) get it in gear and apply the jake as well the brake.... -
FedEx has some of the most aggressive drivers because they have barely time to get to their destination. So, yes most of them will be more dangerous than others. I have seen it alot--but what can you do about it.

i dont think fed ex drivers are any better or worse drivers than any body else out there. but i will tell you i pull doubles every nite (48 footers) and i do fine .but thos pup trailers fed ex pulls will get away from you in a heart beat, especially in windy conditions and through a little ice down its a bad mix.

I do agree that doubles are a bit harder to control at times. I never did doubles but i have seen them in normal/windy conditions. I got doubles endorsement but choose not to run them. They seem to get out of control too easy for me.

I was trying to get on with them here recently. What I found out was I could possibly but did not get a job WITH FX or I could get a job with a contractor hauling FX freight. So my guess is that all the wrecks could possibly be from the contractors' drivers that are trying to keep their job so the contractor can keep the contract for FX freight. Does that make cents??
(Do you know that the avg person can not tell you how many ounces in a gallon or how many feet in a mile?) -
