Exclamation Averitt Express - Their Claims vs Reality

The following comments are based on actual experience. Not hearsay.

Averitt claims they pay for detention, unloading and lay-overs. However, it is very, very difficult to get them to actually pay for the hours you spend waiting, or for unloading. They just keep coming up with excuses for not paying.

The absolute worst thing about Averitt, is their "system" for paying mileage. Drivers are told (actually you're not told until you question) that Averitt pays as per the Household Movers Guide. This means that drivers don't get paid for up to 25% of the miles actually driven. When you first start with Averitt the percentage is lower (10% to 15%), but after 90 days when benefits kick in, their "system" appears to adjust up to 15% to 25%
So if they're paying you .33/mile, you're actually getting .27/mile.

Ya gotta love corporate America. It's all about them screwing the workers they claim to care so much about. Averitt isn't the only company that pays as per Household Movers, so be carefull.

Yea its sad that drivers are still working on household movers pay..It should have been outdated years ago..And has been for most every carrier when it comes to their revenue..About 75 to 80 percent still use this method to pay drivers..Companys see it like this, 500 trucks at 2400 mile avg. on PC miler etc. =1200000 a week...If they can shave 5 to 10% by paying HHG, 84000 miles..X 52 week =4,368,000 miles a year # say .370 cents per mile.. =1,616,160.00 of extra revenue a year..This was figured at 7% !! According to Out of route, driver pay miles ,and PC miler etc. will determine if it even gos higher or lower than this.. But like you said, Gotta love Corporate America!! But then again if you agree to it and cant take no more of it, youll know what to look for when you talk to the next co. you apply too. Just dont be supprised that alot of them still pay HHG to reduces their op. expences. And it does screw the driver.

Being a former Averitt employee myself I can agree with what China is saying here. That's why I left Averitt--good equipment and benefits, but the mileage sucked. I've been with a small local company, but they have poor benefits...now I'm thinking about going to Crete who says they pay practical miles..anyone here know some examples of carriers still paying HHG miles--so others can avoid getting screwed out of miles?

Fine Print

Just be sure to read the fine print, before you sign on, I turned down Averitt and another one (name I cant recall) because I check the difference in HHG and Practical when I saw this.....

HHG would kill my check every week....

Zip code to Zip code, I believe. So if you travel, lets say 30 miles into the zip code to make your drop; you technically don't get paid for that 30 mile drive!

Those mileages have been out over 30yrs to 50 yrs..How it came to be and by whom..I have no clue, but alot changes in 30 to 40 plus years..And when I say changes Im talking about GROWTH! Chicago for example is nowhere near the town it was 30 to 40 yrs ago..A trip from LA to Chicago, say HHG pays 2009 miles, Well these are 2 big ##### citys..and its easy to lose alone in each city up tp 50 miles...Then you have to find the way thats the closest reasonable route to take, which according to my program says 2048..Thats a give and take figure.. But lets say 25 mile each town, plus 3% OOR, = 61 miles..Totals 111 miles not payed . And thats only about 5% OOR total..Some trips can lead to 8 and 15% or more OOR..I used tripmaker1999 and done pretty good to keep my OOR around 6%..Some trips lower..Some higher..Its just according to where you are, and the routes you can take..HHG isnt set up for the use of commercial vehicle routing..Thats why PC Miler came out..Companys were tired of getting screwed over...They just forgot about the driver after they got what they wanted..
